THANK YOU re: your thoughts on God's Son. That's EASILY Nas' most underrated album in my opinion. People don't even mention that when they talk about Nas' best work, but shit...
I mean, you mentioned that you "felt it". I couldn't agree more. There's so much emotion on that album, IMO. You could tell he poured his soul into it. His mom had just died, the beef with Jay had simmered a bit but was still alive, he explained that, the beats were (for the most part) soulful but hard-hitting.
Yea...I couldn't have put it better. That album had a lot of FEELING to it. Perhaps more than any other Nas album. That's not to say that it's his best, but Nas has always been the storyteller FOR the streets and rarely do you catch a glimpse in to his OWN feelings. On God's Son, the entire album was full of his own story and I think that is a major positive. God's Son is probly in my top 3 Nas albums, but that's without giving it much thought.
But while I'm here, I'll answer Thanes' question about Street's Disciple. Funnily enough, while we're talking about a Nas album with introspection and feeling, this might come in 2nd to God's Son. Like you both already said, as always, a double album was unnecessary and if you make this a regular single-disc, it's probly among his best and maybe even talked about as one of the better albums of the 00's. Just too bad it was so watered down. And for that reason, just like every other double album ever, I hardly listen to it. I Do remember loving Message 2 the Feds, Sekou's Story, War, and many others. But it's too watered down. A lot of his best work is on here tho, I do agree. ----------------------------------------
