"Does Camron get the respect he deserves as an MC?"

I know there are some really bad songs in his catelog but it is far outweighed by the great ones. I never see his name on any of these MC lists. Personally he is definately up there on my list in the top 20.

but he seems to be lost in the shuffle. Is it because he is wasn't able to achieve the 50/Jay Z level of sucess?

>on my list in the top 20.

chief among them, taking his affinity for the color pink out of Jesse Johnson/Dan Hibiki/Bret Hart levels

like THAT is what people think about Cam'ron. that fuckin' Barbie Range Rover.

Like Ludacris, a lot seem to think he lacks THAT album or even THAT song for people to go back to.

not to mention his real time in the spotlight was in the twilight of "big business" hip-hop era. and right now, the nostalgia for that time hasn't settled in

personally I think he's one of the best MCs to ever pick up a mic despite all of this, and if he were more serious with it he could certainly have a career worthy of his skills. not just skills, but dude is a rather engaging personality.

he is owed a king's ransom for helping to make "Bout It Bout It" not suck.

I think he really is the Dan Hibiki of hip-hop. Dude's whole career is one long Super Taunt.

for some odd reason. COME HOME WITH ME is a personal favorite (and IIRC didn't it sell pretty well), end to end. jumped off a lot of hilarious moments early in the last decade. and basically "Dipset"

yeah, Come Home With Me was his only platinum album.

That, Purple Haze & Diplomatic Immunity was his peak period.

Heatmakerz combined with Roc in-house (Just, Ye) was his best musical backdrop.

After that it gets spotty because Cam treats production like KRS once he was off Roc-a-fella.

I really liked that Public Enemy #1 mixtape best out of anything after that.

He has no qualms about putting out half assed material, so why should I ride for him if he's just coasting?

and then get stuck there for a bit.

His entire aura is based on not giving a shit so it's tough to muster up a passionate defense of him for the people that don't get him but underneath all the taunts, ridiculousness, fashion, made up words, comedy & straight-up ignorance there is a dude whose multis were as intricate as anybody in his era & who for better or worst birthed that whole #hastag rap shit Drake & them ran with before twitter even existed.

he managed to toe the line between dope and stupid. usually from line to line. i remember listening to tracks of his with my friends and we would be alternately laughing at him ("jesus, that's so DUMB!") and making scrunched up "that's crazy" faces at his patterns

all these personality first-lyrics second rappers, hash-tag/punch-line-street rappers, comedy is important to my rap-rappers, owe a whole lot to Cam'ron

like others have said above it's mostly due to the fact that he really doesn't have that ONE ALBUM. yes folks like/love some of the 2000-04 run, but overall front to back, he don't got one.

I think he's under appreciated, yeah. Maybe it's a generational thing, but if you olds would listen to his songs you'll hear a dope MC! I wish he stayed on for a while longer, but oh well. He has a ton of good old material. And I remember quez, that dude was funny.
