"what do you think randy crawford's "street life" is about?"

it sounds like it could be about being a prostitute.

or a drug dealer.

or it could be about being in the entertainment industry.

or maybe it can apply to all of these.

what you you assume the record is about?

prostitutes, drug dealers, party ppl...all of the various ppl who make up what 1 calls the 'street life'. they all have a place in that song. they're all living a fantasy or a grown-up fairy tale. some are more caught up than others. all of their street lives have a short shelf life.

i've always liked this song.

fuck you.

yeah, that makes sense.

i heard the song when i was little,
so i didn't pick up on any of the metaphores.

"when you keep it young,
your song is always sung."

i assumed she was talking about a lady
standing on stage, singing a song.

i used to sing that to/about myself. LOL

this was back when i struggled to commune w/other young gay ppl and it seemed the only place i could find them was in bars and nightclubs.

and the song definitely described the ppl in my life back then when i was all about partying.

fuck you.

but my song for it was joni mitchell's "black crow."

but it wasn't just about not being able to meet dudes
in other places besides night clubs...

it was about just drinking too much
and staying up too late
and just getting way too excited
about every new person that i met...

just trying to pick up on every shiny thing...
knowing full well it wasn't worth it.

i even relate to the bit about traveling too much.
"took a ferry to a highway, drove to a pontoon plane,
took a plane to a taxi and a taxi to a train...

i've been traveling so long,
how am i ever going to know my home?"

the fact that i haven't heard that song in a year or so
is a great indication that i'm in a much better place in my life.

All of the above..

Also, it's comparing the people in the streets to a constantly rotating cast of characters..

Different faces and names, but the same old roles and games being played.. Everyone walking around with their masks on tight, yet still getting their little time to shine.

and i use to wear that song out and Randy Crawford is one of my personal favorite artists ever. love her talent.

she is truly unsung.

this is one of the best songs that Steely Dan didn't write and the irony is that Joe Sample played on alot of there albums back in the day.

so many metaphors and Ironys in "Street Life"

going out at night. The Crusaders did their thing on that track, and Randy shined like none other. Joe Sample, man.

reminds me of when I used to stay in the dorms and walk that long way down to Harris Teeter.
