You know that. Springsteen playing the Apollo is not like, say, Slayer playing the Apollo but still, I think it's safe to say that Springsteen's Dylan/singer/songwriter rooted music is generally considered a pretty "white" style in the context of rock. And yes, I know he has strong influences from the Doo-wop era and Jackie Wilson and the Spector-girl group type melodies and things like that but his music in general is still a product of a different aesthetic.
Hall&Oates on the other hand were even inspired by *contemporary* R&B in the context of their time.

Agreed on the Hall'n'oates distinction.
Their music is more connected to a black american sound. Even when they ventured into rock stuff....they play it from a rnb perspective and Bruce is kinda the opposite. When he plays rnb, he plays it from a rock perspective.
Off topic but I gotta say...I've never really been a Springsteen fan up until the past couple of weeks. I listened to the new album and than revisited some older stuff....watched some live concerts on youtube. I found a new appreciation for him. Weird.

and that his music isn't wanted or appreciated by black people. Strange, when you consider just how many times in his music this is brought up. There is so little in his music or songwriting that black people would even relate to, much less enjoy. It's weird how he could even play that style of music in that venue, considering that venue only plays styles of music invented and/or pioneered by black people.
Am I getting my point across?

Listening now... audio quality is top-notch and the Boss is bringing it, as usual... (I'm pretty cool w/the new album, but the tunes sound even better and a bit more natural live, as is to be expected...)
