I remember some of my earliest memories of hiphop involving this cat's work. I always felt DJ MAGIC MIKE not only personified the epitome of the Bass Music subgenre but he incorporated a Marley Marl type sampling aesthetic and incredible turntablism.
I remember buying all those tapes in the late 80's early 90's and thinking who is Cheetah Records..lol. I used to dream of having a knockin' system when I got 16 just so i could bump "Feel The Bass"
Vibe Magazine called him one of the best platinum artists you never heard of..dude had a platinum album and 6 gold plaques independently.

and this is what initially caught my ear. I could never hear him through my usual channels at the time.

My homeboy had a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville. I'll never forget he had a system put in with two 15's built into a box in the trunk and a 1000 watt amp. Shit used to BANG! Man we spent so much time in that car and most of the time we were bumping something by Magic Mike. Our fuckin song used to be "Feel the Beat". Just pathetic. Rattling folks windows, making car alarms go off just for fun. We had like 5 or 6 Magic Mike cd's. Some with just him, some with the Royal Posse and one with MC Madness called "Ain't no Doubt About It" Loved Magic Mike, man...damn!

...one thing I used to enjoy about going down that way was turning on the radio and hearing some shit that wouldn't make it back up 95 for months.
Shit's disgusting, for all the complaints about "big government" you hear nowadays, no one (but us) never seems to lament the way letting all the broadcasters form a Devastator of duncery fucked the whole regional music market...
Bass Music is damn near Go-Go-ish in its regional appeal, it seems X-ed out of the whole "Southern Hip-Hop" convo sometimes.

I remember Mike's CDs had warning labels on them. Not for lyrical content, but the bass could and would fuck up your system and your hearing. That shit was great

"Lower The Dynamite". Like what he did with "Substitution" on this one and the ever familiar "Impeach The President". This shit was made to get hype (and blow out your speakers).

subway-riding cats didn't know nothing about that...my cousins from NY used to LOVE rollin' the block with me, Techmaster PEB and my '85 Seville named Lucy...ah shit, those were the days
my brother used to work at a car stereo spot so he hooked me up with all that shit...i haven't thought about that music in a minute...shit was kinda corny but the bass and the grooves were pretty undeniable

I even wrote to him a few times back in the day, I almost have all his albums but as time went on his sound changed (and not for the better) but his still a legend.
A lot of people might not know but Mike & Dj Scratch are cousins; also just found out recently that one of his rapping artists died a few years ago, MC Madness...R.I.P..

I read this from Magic Mike's bookface page, he was talking about how long ago this album dropped and the fun he had with Madness doing the album and then said that Madness passed away a few years ago.

That is the best 808 tuned kicks money can buy to this day; what Kanye wished he could do on 808s And Heartbreaks.
Alot of the samples on the songs are very cool too, got that SP-1200 crunch on them.
