Why on vinyl but not on CD? I'm sure Prince has a reason for that, but maybe he realizes that people who want his music remastered will buy it on vinyl, while those who buy it on CD will put it online for free. With vinyl, there's a bit of effort involved. Yes, even the vinyl pressings will make it online, but...
to be honest, there isn't any sense. Maybe it's the idea that if money is going to be put into remastering it, why release it the cheap way when you're going to be able to download it for free?
He waited too long for someone to remaster his works.

it says that it's a "minature" of the original album. i wonder if they just reproduced the innersleeves, or if you also get the same label art.
i'd pay cash money to get a purple rain CD that had the dried flowers reprinted on it.
honestly, one of the reason's i'm hesitiant to cop the vinyl remasters is that i KNOW the purple rain reissue won't have the dried flowers. they're gonna put some other bullshit on the record label.
i just know it.
jayewonder pointed out some MJ imports that had the originial epic logo printed on the CD. that'd be awesome.

b/c i don't care what they print on the CDs or the records.
FTR, i own all of his 80s albums and singles on vinyl already. and so i'm not too pressed to buy remasters on vinyl. i'm not convinced they'll be worth my $. i'm not a collector, i just like music. and if i already own the music (like, the sound recording) i don't feel the need to buy it again so i can have the packaging.
damn. i wasn't this way 5 or 10 yrs ago. but here i am.

the only albums that i own on vinyl are the ones that i am inclined to listen to from beginning to end as i drink alcohol alone in the room.
vinyl = music that i brood to.
i've sold most of it. the digital copies are just fine for the vast majority of the music i listen to.
i'm okay with that.

most of the music i have on vinyl is stuff i listen to when i'm cleaning my apartment on the weekends. b/c it's what i used to do w/mom when i was a kid and i'm in a regression phase.

i have all the albums on LP already and theyre all in fine condition so theres no point in getting these for me. though its cool that vinyl remasters are out there.
i really dont care about cd remasters though.
i dont need to hear his or anyones music ultra cleaned up. i sold my remastered funkadelic cds as they were so clean (and almost mp3 sounding as a result) that they ruined the music for me. it didnt sound like what i remembered. some remasters are good, like stevie and bob marleys albums, but im not crazy about them. the original albums are just fine. a lot of the time the ancient cds from the early 90s are just fine too. i dont need my music pristine and made extra loud to enjoy it. i like my vinyl copy of sly's riot album. i didnt like the cleaned up remaster they put out in the 00s.

stevie's were brilliant (although the vinyl still sounds great).
the beatles' were awesome (i think i prefer the remastered CD of abbey road to the vinyl)
the sly remasters i could have done without, like you said. same goes for the stones' "exile on mainstreet," although the "let it bleed" remastered sounds really great.
it really all depends.
mostly, i'm just curious... b/c sometimes they bring things to life in a way that the original issue didn't capture the same way.
and all of the Prince CD's sound terrible anyway when compared to the vinyl, so i'm pretty curious as to what they came up with.

16. "RE: did you buy those prince vinyl remasters? why do they exist?" In response to Reply # 0
ill just keep all the original Prince lps that I have of dirty mind, the legendary double lp 1999, and purple rain because it probably wasnt remastered in the right way. besides, why buy something that I already have.....it isnt like the remastered lp contain bonus tracks or alternate takes so you are not really gaining anything by spending all that money for something that contains everything that is on the original lp.
