like, i don't think any group/rapper is ever gonna make shit that *feels* as good as Tribe's music... and i don't think any group/rapper will touch kast's *accessible* creativity...
i'm probably only picking kast cuz of timing.. i discovered atcq much later (e.g. "Find a Way" was the first tribe song i really *knew* and loved.... and yea, i was in 6th/7th in '98, so don't act like it's my fault for being born later and not having older siblings lol)... didn't really explore their catalog til undergrad-ish... obviously, you can't lose w/ either of them
... they just spoke to me more. I got love for both groups but Tribe was like where I'm from and they weren't all gangsta gangsta with it. Plus the Jazz just hit you in the ribs like some soul food. It spoke to me like this is my Wolf Pack yo.

The fact that it's so close only highlights just how great both groups are. All this did was make me go back to Tribe records and Outkast records and listen to just how great they both are.

Tribe for me = 2 undeniable classics (both out of this world!!!) plus 3 great albums with classic material. 1st album is debatable depending on what day you catch me.
Kast for me = 3 undeniable classics (non-negotiable) plus 2 great albums with classic material. The only reason SB/LB isn't classic is Big Boi's side imo.
I grew up with ATCQ. Low End was the first album of theirs I owned. Memorized from front to back. Midnight was played back to front. From there I kinda fell out of love...
I kinda matured with Kast. I can still remember where I was the first time I heard Southerplayalistic... and I just remember thinking what in the hell is this??
Both are absolutely fantastic. I think Kast has more diversity in their style and much more consistent quality on their albums.

I was thinking about this yesterday and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was pretty much the height of creativity in hip-hop. Kast kept pushing the envelope and then The Roots and Common went in that direction from 2000-2002 and then Kast just went all in with the double album. And they went diamond so yes, you could say they went out on top.
But to do so, you would have to ignore Idlewild which wasn't favored among critics or fans so you could see that as their fall off moment and potential what kept Andre from releasing music.
And the creativity isn't to know anyone doing it today because there are a lot of acts like El-P, Aesop, POS etc that are very creative but Kast was always able to maintain their creativity throughout their popularity which is rare.
Used to go back & forth with this back in the day. Bought Aquemini and The Love Movement on the same day back in 98'. Aquemini put Outkast over the top for me.
i didn't expect the votes to be so close. i love both, but i would say ATCQ. Mostly because I listen to Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders more than I listen to ATLiens and Aquemini.
