"25 Songs Where Rappers Got Murdered On Their Own Sh*t (by yours truly)"

Today, Complex was kind enough to run a list I've been wanting to publish for a long time now. Let the debates begin.

a rapper having a better verse than you doesn't necessarily mean you got murdered. beanie siegel had a stand out verse, but everyone came dope on adrenaline. no one got murdered. eminem had a ridiculous flow, but let's not act like jay-z didn't have ridiculous lyrics on renegade too. getting murdered on your own shit is really when another rapper sounds good and you had a wack verse.

why would anyone say dr. dre got murdered on his own shit when he isn't a rapper and he introduced snoop on that track. plus, the beat is ill.

and nobody got murdered by busta on scenario. q tip, phife, and charlie brown all had dope verses that stand out too.

are popular because that is what their audience is familiar with. I personally wouldn't have included a couple of the tracks including that Rick Ross & Drake joint and the Kanye songs.

Furthermore, if Busta on Scenario wasn't on the list, I probably would have complained.

because that's pretty much the de facto example for standout/scene-stealing performance on a posse cut for two decades running.

To pretend anyone would cite Charlie Brown or Phife when talking about that song is just contrarianism at its worst.

for fear of getting "murdered", rap music is worse off. Don't love the concept.

its like we heard the verse at a friday jam session.
shit was about FIVE times longer than what you got...
like how can a mofo stretch a "and em" verse?
like...shit woulda been 7 mins.
we told him yo...32 bars yo nothing else.

dice actually closed the song with a whole nother verse. (cause his first line "beans pass the mac...") was like a baton jawn....

then me & rich was like "yo riq, change your verse, this pattern to paragraph jawn is cool, but beans flat footed predictable "& em" flow is the winner so you might wanna readjust it.

pride is a mofo.

he rewrote the jawn and made it MORE complex.

we was teasing riq and he was like "take this shit off the album then since yall dont fuck with my verse"

we was like its cool...but we just never dealt with this type of scenario before (i personally think "the lesson" with dice's verse ("i leave niggas missing in action like the dads in the projects") was my favorite riq ether.

dice took heed and was like "nah, im rolling with the flavor, and just do the flat foot jawn so it won't sound crazy after beans"

riq stood his ground and took the L like a man.

and i dont consider it an L so i mean it playful

Those two songs should've made that list, putting up remixes with multi-guest rappers should be omitted since the whole purpose is to have those rappers guest appear and rip it better anyways.

Em had the stand out verses, not many people are debating that.

However, lets not act as if Jay mailed in his verses. He held his own with the off-beat flow and multis.

There are many better examples of an MC getting embarrassed on a track

u're a dumbass country muthafucka with a 5th grade vocab/reading level, or a dumbass southern rap dickridin mufucka with a 5th grade vocab/reading level... or maybe just a person who enjoys listening to wack shit. *shrugs*

no charisma or delivery can make up for the idea that this bubble gum, "dr. seuss, mother goose" ass verse murdered Jay on his own shit. f.o.h.w.t.b.s.

>"It's the...big Southern rap pimp presario" when this shit
>comes on, even to this day.

... nor was i trying to argue that Bun's verse belonged on this list either, hence my use of the words "at least".

now please, continue to try to justify the notion that Pimp C could EVER body Jay on anything. it's so entertaining when niggas come up in here defending bullshit that is so clearly wack as fuck.

LOL, first Young Roddy in the Jet Life post and now this.

Bunch of mad, miserable, non-published, cynical, salt-saturated crabs in a boring-ass barrel in this forum nowadays.

i mean, yeah, eminem wreck that verse for real. but he used some recycled verses/beat. it was basically jay replacing royce, but jay DECIMATED that beat. the off-kilter schemes and all? i mean, when nas said jay got murdered on "ether", it was a statement, and it worked. but ionno if em really got jay that bad, if at all.

everyone was on Em's part. it could've been anyone on the song and they would've been an afterthought which is a testimate to how dope Em's verses are.

and I agree that Jay also goes in on the song but even then he's still just "whatever".

And you can't really say Em used a recycled verse and beat because Jay took the track and substituted Royce. So Jay knew what he was getting himself into when he did it and I'm sure tried his best to keep up.

didn't listen the first time and say "Eminem murdered him"....I think it was more "damn, Eminem got off on that track" without us really putting Jay down. But Nas brought attention to it and made everyone say "oh shit.....he did get served on there, huh???"

And Jay's verse was like 8.5/10...dope, but nothing amazing. Eminem beat him in eeeeevery way on it...the content, lyrics, multis, delivery, flow...I mean it was literally his track with him making the beat. Jay's best contribution was "do you listen to music or just skim through it" which folks still say, so he definitely wasn't MURDERED to that extent. But Em clearly ran that shit.

the longer the verse the better people think it is.

like if you go in for 32 or 48, no matter how dope the dude with 16 came, he still is going to get "murdered" because people get that "wow" factor when someone raps for a long time.

AZ's verse is arguably the best verse on the album.

dunno if Lyte wrote that verse herself, but she gutted Com with that one line.

he came more visceral, yeah, and attacked the track harder
but Guru was dropping some ill shit in that verse
'the righteous man sacrifice to get what they deserve'
cannot afford to be confined to a cell/brain waves swell, turning a desert to a well'
'the brain wake causes vessels to circulate/like constellations reflect at night off the lake'
you can't front on that shit, bro

It wasn't HIS shit to begin with. That shit was a Bad Meets Evil track. Point blank. Em used it after him and Royce had that big blow up and went their separate ways. When that article hit the mags like "Em has been in the studio with Jay" and I heard the final result I was like "to do what? take Royce's verse out? Because he sure wasn't in there to produce". Then when Royce dropped the Build and Destroy mixtape we actually hear Em getting murked on that track.
