Not sure I'd call them punk/hardcore though-they were one of the textbook bands in the late 80's/early 90's "noise"-rock scene... Anyway, I don't think many people outside of me have mentioned them here over the years but theyr'e legends to me even if you really don't need more than 1 album from them because they ALWAYS sound the same. My favourite is the singles 89-92 comp as well as the debut; after that, their drummer died and their sound became more muscular, less noisy/lo-fi while still sounding the same if that makes sense. "Scattered, smothered, covered" is the best of their "cleaner" albums IMO and probably the best starting point...
Useless bonus-trivia:there was a primitive death/thrash metal band with the same name in the late 80's-I actually dig them too but they are not in the same league. Anyway, the album "Slap of reality" is NOT the "punk" Unsane but rather the metal one which a friend I played them to found out the hard way back in the day-he HATED metal and was like so pissed off, LOL!

then I realized you already had. The thrash band Unsane were pretty good on their EP "Inverted Crosses." "Slap of Reality" is not nearly as good and the really bizarre cover art reflects that.

Liberal definition of punk, I know but this song/album (their best album IMO; Scum is overrated for numerous reasons) *is* punk, not metal. ND would not become metal until the "Mentally murdered" EP in 89 IMO. TOTAL banger and brutal as fuck:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFrx50d9kUQ
