yeah, i'm sure they're deep in my memory banks somewhere, but i just wasn't raised with any music, and none of my friends are into yacht rock, so name recognition doesn't come easy!

in December 2009 i had a quick exchange with the bol who played sax on that legendary tune.

ME directly to him:
did you like the beanie sigel song, "feel it in the air"?

(around this time, i also left a comment somewhere remarking on the strangeness of his album title, Her Father Didn't Like Me Anyway)

HIM directly to me (after seeing both of the above):
dude its a brilliant cover. title of my first album for CBS Portrait label, I thought at the time that it was a fascinating title for an album no more or less than that. Yours with respect, always Raphael Ravenscroft

ME directly to him:
the sax in "baker street" is one of my first memories of music, by the way. it's one of the few songs i remember as a little kid and always brings back nice memories.

I picked up this 45 @ a thrift store about a year or two ago, popped it on and was pleasantly surprised...shit brought back memories of riding in the Ford Granada with my moms on the way to school...I never knew the dude's name, i just bought the 45 on the strength of his hairdo on the cover...figured i might find a good sample or something...i've actually been working on a cover version of this tune...

I remember picking that album up in the dollar bins long time ago, I wasn't really impressed with the majority of the music on it but "Home & Dry" was pretty decent, infact I remember sampling that song too.

Dad had that on vinyl. When I used to raid his crates to make tapes to rock in the Volvo, of course I stopped on the very Bob Jamesy, "Peace of Mind". That's "Volvo Music" if I've ever heard it.

I bought the album on CD when I saw it in the store some years later. Every now and then it would go in the changer.

Then one day, I was driving back home from around Canton or so, and "The Saddest Thing" came on. I was like "WTF?!!!"

all those years hearing "What A Fool Believes" in the background, from it being on the radio in random people's cars, in the bathrooms of restaurants, etc. chuckling as I was trying to figure out the lyrics in the chorus (I remember once saying something about "fricasseeeeeeee...")

all came to a head one fateful day in, I want to say '95, when it turned up in an old school mix (it was the disco remix of the song) on Z93.

That voice came on. "WTF, Michael McDonald?!"

A trip to the record store later, and there was no turning back.

I saw a correlation. despite the hate, the relationship b/w pitchform and indie rock is undeniable.
