"What 10yr+ old hiphop act walks the best line at live shows?"
I'm just staring at this "Black Star at the Fox Theatre in Oakland" banner ad and I'm remembering seeing them last year at The Fox and leaving the show feeling old and underwhelmed...which sucks because 1) I don't really go out to shows like I used to and I felt like I struck out and 2) a lot of people, young and old looked like they were having a good time. That being said, I saw them when I was in college and that shit just came out and I knew the show wouldn't live up to that...and I don't really want this to turn into a personal psychoanalysis so I know, I'm old, shit changes... The funny part about it is I might have been the only one who wanted to hear some new shit...I mean, I wouldn'tve walked out without seeing DEfinition but it seemed to me like the show was just kinda unrehearsed and they hadn't really rapped together since that one album... ANYWAY
All I want to know is what current touring hiphop artists are able to balance new and old material in a way that keeps you going back to see them?
you forget how much shit they have because it's all mixed together

and they still put on a hell of a show...but they hate doing me,myself and I yet they still do it and goof around and change the lyrics about how much they hate that song all the time and it always kinda takes the energy out of the show to me...they should just stop playing it all together...now half the audience wasnt even alive to remember that joint
I guess it has a lot to do with you material as well
I've never seen Snoop outside of a festival setting but he's got enough new and old bangers, I bet he's worth seeing live
these guys did a 45 minute set here this spring and ripped that shit with not just hits, but old and new album cuts and soundtrack shit-and they didn't even get anywhere near half their catalog the nigga Dave came out for an encore and rapped while eating a cookie and never stopped between breaths

I'm not saying they can't still put on a great show...I was just disappointed last couple of times I saw them but that was in the midwest and they don't seem to bring it the same every night depending on the city... You don't have to sell De La to me, they are one of my favorite groups ever, I'll go see em next time they are in the Bay and hopefully they blow my mind they they used to...maybe they won't be so bitter they are in Indiana in a half-empty house and maybe bring some energy and not make Maseo keep playing the beginning of that Jake 1 beat because the crowd isn't getting hype enough when it drops...
with that in mind, anybody got any idea if De La is in the studio working on some new shit?

i dont know if he's touring recently but common put on a killer show in honolulu early 2011. ill always go back to see that dude again and again. he freestyles, bboys, drums, brings girls on stage, all with tons of energy and enthusiasm. how can you not enjoy that?
havent seen Common in a few years and haven't really been feeling his past few albums but everytime I see him he puts on a great show...I never bought EC but I went to his show right when that shit came out and I thought those songs were dope live...

specifically to say Common and De La. Both still rock HARD. Snoop ain't too shabby either, and he always brings out west coast legends like Kurupt Daz and Lady of Rage to rock the classics. Seen all 3 acts (Snoop Comm and De La) within the last 3 years and none of them have lost a step.
But yea...Common has mad energy, freestyles, knows his audience, and always breakdances. I had to have seen Common 30+ times since like 1999 and he still has that same stage presence and passion.
Busta came to UMass Amherst while I was a student there in like 2004 or 2005. He spent most of his set making fun of the people in the front row with his hypeman. Was an awful awful experience.
