(to me) "throwaways" = some bullshit recorded to keep their name on the blogs or some shit a producer passes off to save the heat for later

"One-off singles" like Cartoon & Cereal are classic. true.

Wasn't an album, it was just a mixtape for the Internet. Not like it had much of a push.

>leaking him working with lena del ray

It was leaked without the camp's permission. Supposedly wasn't even the finished version.

>him
>still in the cypher at hip hop BET awards without getting on
>the stage? but he got on the stage at the mtv awards?

How is that his fault though? He can't demand BET puts him on stage lol. I doubt they were gonna go with two new artists for solo performances, and Kendrick was their pick (probably because they were also gonna crown him Lyricist of the Year)

his buzz was Wayy bigger than Kendrick esp for the BET young crowd and he has let it die down to behind Meek and Kendrick.

You right can't demand BET put him on stage but if he had sustain the buzz he orignally had and if that single with hit boy did what it was suppoused to they would WANT to put him on stage.

I mean that's really all there is to it. He got too much love in his initial run before he even really worked out who he was as an artist or what he was trying to do or say, that's the gift & the curse of this instantaneous internet age.

That 'Spin Magazine' without substance buzz kills you in the end, whether it be a rapper like Rocky or an indie-band like Clap Your Hands & Say Yeah.

By the time he really figures it out people will have already moved on, much like if Jay had hit with his double-time rap style rather than got a bunch of doors slammed in his face before eventually just doing Reasonable Doubt on his own.

The seeds of artistry in a lot of cases need time to germinate, if the torrential rain comes during it's infancy that shit will just end up floating away.

The fact that he tried to launch a whole crew off one okay mixtape (had like four or five strong songs on it.....Peso, Trilla, Purple Swag, maybe Goldie post-that along with the Schoolboy Q joint I forget his verse on) rather than put work into perfecting his own thing & getting his real album off the ground says it all.

And I'm still waiting for a single quotable of his that sticks to the ribs.

no idea, I can't even remember any songs except for the second one you mentioned (and had to Google to make sure it was the one I was thinking of but was pretty sure it had to be) from riding around with some indie-rock/hollywood chicks when I first got out here in '04.

but the thing with them is they were pretty much in a bidding war before they'd even played a true show off that record they'd gotten together with college friends, had rock legends going to their first NYC show & they couldn't even play a full set yet.

They might even be a capable unit at this point but nobody who jocked them back then cares now, after LiveLoveASAP it seemed like Rocky would meet a similar fate.......his buzz already feels like it's fizzled as you were observing.

Live by the blog, die by the blog.

...as in, the day everyone is talking about and marinating on Kendrick's album, which is probably the best hip-hop album. top-to-bottom in over a year. This just feels like an afterthought and I wonder if it wouldn't had this dropped last week or even next.

Because I love it, yet everyone else (not just here either, so this isn't some "OKP is so dumb lulz" shit) seems to be pretty down on it.

The beat sounds great on nice speakers.

-Not to pigeonhole the kid, but Rocky has only impressed me on the first verse of Goldie. The verse on this one just sounds like faux-freestyle jibber-jabber.

-Is this an actual TitChainz feature, or like, a sample or something? Seems like a waste.

-Kendrick is unfairly more charismatic than anyone else on the song. Kid is amazing.
