"has a black mainstream artist ever done what miley cyrus did?"

so, tiffany foxx is lil kims protoge, after her video for "Jelly Beans" dropped on worldstar, miley cyrus tweeted her and said she liked it.

a month later, miley cyrus pops up for their video shoot:
http://youtu.be/0Z_9GJ5DBKs

now, miley cyrus is without question more powerful, relevant, and famous than everybody involved with this project - so she stands to really gain nothing from this and really just did it because she wanted to.

has a wealthy mainstream black mega-artist ever done this for an indie artist? school me if so.

Her Disney career is over, and she's made it clear that she wants to rebrand herself into something edgier--"a white Rihanna" is how it's been described.

Associating herself with more "street" artists supposedly puts her on that path.

she can recruit just about anybody she wants to collab with her, nicki, lil wayne, game, 50, and then get marketing dollars behind it to push the project too.

in fact, i'm willing to bet she does just that at some point this year.

but she genuinely likes tiffany foxx and makes no secret of it. and then she lent her celebrity to help her out for the video shoot.

this isn't normal "celeb" behavior.

Even look at some of the names you named; Game, 50...etc. Those dudes have no pull in 2013...you might be a bit out of the loop...

On your main point; there's been plenty of times where big black mainstream artists have co-signed up and comers...you see this PLENTY of times in mixtapes where big names will pop up where you don't expect them, or in the old days video cameos. We can argue Kim's doing that in this example!

HOWEVER, like Afkap said above, plenty of times its an attempt for the 'older' artist to stay relevant...vampires....which we can also argue Kim is doing in this example, lol.

huh? so miley cyrus will get the same street cred by working with a mixtape artist with no record deal as oppose to The Game? by all means explain this further for me.

a cameo is a business deal, the mainstream artist is getting something in return. what miley did was not a business deal.

and i'm aware of people re-tweeting indie artists songs and videos, but going the extra mile (offline) to show support just as a fan without getting anything in return...i've never seen this done by a major "magazine-cover" hip hop artist.

have you?

comes from associating with artists the mainstream ain't even hip to yet... the acts that nobody has heard of today but that are gonna be the hottest shit in the street NEXT year. Not by having an over-exposed cat like Weezy text in his 472nd guest verse of the month.

In response to Reply # 23

what happened was exactly what i explained.

miley cyrus genuinely likes tiffany foxx and her music. she is literally a fan of her music and her movement, she has no ulterior motive.

all of this about her wanting street cred and why she wouldn't work with this artist or that is nothing more than speculation.

so my initial question still stands - has their ever been a major hip hop artist to openly admit to the world that they are a fan of an unsigned independent artist even so much to the point that they want to meet them and be in a video with them, nothing more.

again if that's happened before let me know.

Are you Miley? Are you on her team? Why do you feel so confident about what her motives may or may not be?

At least I haven't even claimed any definitive knowledge of whats going on in her head... I just said that she actually DOES hve something to gain from affiliating with an upcoming potential trendsetter. And that's true, whether or not she genuinely enjoys the artist's work.

Yes, it has happened a lot. Multiple times right here on this very site.

are you a part of miley cyrus's camp? you know her inner most business strategies?

clearly if i created this post and asked this question that I at the very minimum have followed what's been going on on twitter...if you think she's just bold faced lying in her words and actions then that's another discussion altogether.

and i've been repeatedly asking for examples because i genuinely don't know...that may be difficult to believe, but I actually came here with this question because i figured you cats would have genuine examples.

All I said is that she DOES gain something... whether or not that is her intention.

Pay attention to my language: I didn't say shit about her MOTIVES; I talked about her BENEFITS.

I don't know and if you think I am going to expend that much brainpower trying to divine what goes on between Miley Cyrus's ears, you got another think coming, my friend.

The query seemed straight forward to me. I unfortunately don't have any examples to offer though. Well, Soulja Boy might qualify. I know he reaches out and collabs with upstart artists that he finds on YouTube.

during his performance at MSG early December and let him perform "All Gold Everything". Waka Flocka just did a song with this unsigned guy from NJ named Riq Bubz, and he's been cosigning him a bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjZKsD_wkqM
Those were just two quick ones off the top.
The lesser known artist gets a good look, and at the minimum the established artist shows the general audience that they are still hip and relevant. In some instances the established artist steals some of that new energy (or "swag" if you want to call it that) for their upcoming material.

I agree with AFKAP, by the way. Your premise is fatally flawed.

and the rubberband man video was an industry backed project.

i use to go to fort valley state back in 01-02, T.I. use to come there and shut it down, both homecomings i was there..

if diddy had come through THEN, you'd have a point because nobody outside of GA knew who he was then.

and how is the premise of my question flawed? you're the second person to say this but then just leave it at that. could you explain?

When, as AFKAP said quite well, she has quite a bit to gain by all of this.

Because as big a star as she may, if she dropped a new single tomorrow, urban radio wouldn't give it a second look. By associating with an up-and-coming artist, she is able to get the rub.

one of the most famous pop stars in the world, who is at the time of this post, on the cover of cosmopolitan magazine

stands to gain something from 2 unsigned female rap artists on a low-budget video shoot? for a song she's not even on?

you've got it backwards - the only people benefiting from this is Lil Kim and Tiffany Foxx, and possibly the video director.

why is it so hard for you all to believe that miley actually is just a fan and was just enjoying herself on a video shoot?

YOU directed the video, huh?

And this is your way of trying to draw our attention to that and exploit that Miley heat?

Because I was trying to find some who went the extra mile and/or appeared in videos/on records when they didn't have to.

If we're talking about artists tweeting love, then we can go a long way with that... shit, I would even start with Chris Brown and Frank Ocean lol

But Drake did show up on one of Weeknd's mixtapes.

But yeah, twitter's easier to get their unfiltered enthusiasm for an artist as opposed to the cliche'ed 'Yo, I don't listen to nothing out now, just my shit' response during an interview. You get alot of interesting & random shoutouts.

MC Kill Em Dead - Yo, this new Beach House shit my nigga? This shit bumps'

where did i switch the rules? my question has been the same since the jump.

I even specifically said INDIE ARTIST in the original post (and it's unedited) and dudes are saying T.I. and Rockwell.

I haven't changed my question up at all.

mainstream artists giving indie artists a platform (define that how you wish) is huge, HUGE. i will never discredit that, in fact i love when that happens and a lot of artists have done that across genre's.

but what i'm talking about is a mainstream UBER-famous artist actually just openly liking an indie artist, so much so that they show up to a photo shoot, video shoot, or show or whatever and basically say: "i don't want anything from you, I can't get you a deal, I can't get you shit, but I'm fucking with what you've got going on here, i'm a fan...can i get in the video? can i get a photo with you?"

this thread is an example of how rare it is for this to happen because dudes are clearly like "naaahh...she gotta want something outta this!! cmon!!" when that's not the case.

sorry, but i've never seen a mainstream black hip hop artist do this. feel free to tear me to shreds or criticize me into internet forum oblivion for taking it there, but I just have never seen this. and none of you have provided examples of this yet.
