"Poll question: You think Jay Electronica was signed to be shut up?" Wed Feb-13-13 07:12 PM by normal35762
I have a friend who thinks that Jay was signed/paid to be shut up. Meaning Jay-Z signed him to silence the competition. I don't know about that one but what do you think?

It'd probably hurt Diddy to breathe now, if he took time to sign this dude and still have no output. I'd assume anyone that wanted to sign him around that time was expecting dude to go full steam after the "Exhibit" songs hype.

He recorded Nostalgia/Ultra and the label shelved it indefinitely. So he released it on his own out of frustration, and it got so much buzz that Def Jam realized he was a legit commodity and they actually gave him more money before recording and releasing Channel Orange.

Diddy would have enabled Elec to takeover because he recognized the pure talent & earning potential. Camel wasnt trying to have that so he gave the nigga a silencer deal. Gameover.
Camel is no competition for Jay Elec by the way. He's much more powerful than Jay Elec in the entertainment world but he cant fuck with Electronica in the booth. No way. Im not here for argument though so i'll leave it at that.
22. "RE: but what would be his purpose for doing that?" In response to Reply # 13
JZ barely raps anymore so its not like hes worried about any competition against himself saleswise, and even if he were i dont think JE would be any threat...other than that what does he gain by shelving JE indefinitely?
