With all due respect, what Edition of The BeatTips Manual did you get? Are you saying that the *5th Edition of The BeatTips Manual "was never really helpful or even entertaining," and that "Any beatmaking video on YT surpasses it?"
The 5th Edition of The BeatTips Manual, which comes in at more than 437 pages, contains a vast amount of helpful information: It contains a major History Part, which includes not only a deep look at the history (and pre-history) of hip hop but detailed analysis of the history of beatmaking. No YouTube beatmaking video (or other book for that matter) has this....
It contains a comprehensive Instruction Part, which includes highly detailed discussions on drums, composition, programming, arrangement, and the art of sampling. (Hugely helpful!)
It contains a Music Theory and Culture Part, which includes comprehensive discussion of theory in beatmaking, particularly as it relates to Western Music Theory. (Again, hugely helpful).
It contains an Interviews Part, which includes the most comprehensive interviews that Marley Marl, DJ Premier, and 9th Wonder (and more) have ever given. There is no YouTube beatmaking video (or other book) that contains anything even near this.
Thus, if you weren't referencing the *5th Edition, please be clear. And if you were referencing the *5th Edition, then I strongly believe that most people who've read it hold a highly favorable opinion of it.
