"Fall + Winter Outerwear Post" Fri Oct-20-23 10:36 AM by snacks
As the weather is starting to change, I checked my coat closet and realized that I don't like most of what I've owned. I've only copped two jackets in probably the last four years: an outdoorsy-looking military-esque (for lack of better word) jacket and a car coat. The rest are mostly from my 20's and just doesn't fit my style anymore. I've gravitated towards shirt jackets a bit, but at some point it'll be too cold for those.
At the same time, I've been browsing and haven't seen much within a reasonable price range that has stood out to me.
Have you copped any jackets and/or coats lately? Or are there any that you have your eyes on? I intentionally left this gender neutral since I've seen some nice unisex outwear, so feel free to share as well ladies!
>i just got a 60s blanket lined denim chore jacket, and a >purple unlined Carhartt canvas chore jacket (so more like a >shacket). both vintage. > >copped at goodwill so spent a total of $8. > >but yeah, vintage is always the way to go when it comes to >jackets/coats. > >edit: full disclosure i work in the vintage industry so i tell >everyone to buy everything vintage. fuck new clothing.
I have a small hunch that good pieces will be harder to find in this area (VA Beach), but I'll do some DD. Do you happen to know of any solid online vintage shops?

for stores near you because i know their are some (i found one in richmond not sure how close that is).
also, i'd recommend eBay or Depop. if you're hesitant about not being able to try on when buying online as far as fit goes, you can measure pieces that you own and like, and then many listings already have measurments or you can ask the sellers for measurements then compare to the items you own and like. it should give you a pretty reliable idea of how something will fit.
also, almost ALL vintage pieces are better quality, and moreso than not you'll be paying less than what you pay for new unless you're a strictly cheap, fast fashion shopper (h&m, etc.). for instance, the blanket lined chore jacket i got from the 1960s was made by Sears...a budget brand for that time...but 1000x better than anything that's made today by just about ANY brand that exists as far as construction/materials go..and online you could cop the same coat for 40-60 dollars.

the style vary from puffer, wool, and bombers. I try to keep a range of options for because somedays I'll be sharp and clean with a nice wool joint or jeans and a puffer with for the more sporty looks.
lately, gotten into button or zip up sweaters. got a couple from banana republic. also got another jacket from there. banana has been to me as I get older.
oh, almost forgot that I recently found a baseball type jacket. I'd been looking for a particular that I saw in Dallas earlier this. couldn't find that and happened upon a different that caught my attention.

they also have really good sales or promos for card holders.
beyond that, I tend to look at certain brands. polo, calvin klein, timberland, and sometimes brooks brothers. the outlet stores come in handy for these.
