I understand they're much older now, but most older acts still bring the energy for their performances of high energy songs. Our voices deepen as we age, but even Ron Isley still sings in the same key at 82 yrs old. B-Real gotta give me that high voice energy for HICJKAM. His voice is just too important a part of their aesthetic for me. These cats sounded like someone doing karaoke of their own material. I clicked on this about as fast as anyone could possibly click on a link, but this is one of the more disappointing ones for me.

and don’t expect as much energy nor do I need it.
but I get what you are saying.
Prolly much better energy if they were standing the whole time but it worked for me.

If total energy, performance and a little context enter the equation...
Mac Miller without a doubt had more shock AND entertainment value than even the T-Pain set, even before his death added a somber air to it, and Anderson .Paak's energy made that little office feel like a coliseum.
Other than a fully committed Tribe or De La set, a perfectly curated 20 minutes from Lil' Wayne or Pusha T and a fully committed Malice backed by fresh arrangements from a Neptunes/Spymob collab...
Thundercat and Justus busted that Mac Miller set the fuck up, let alone the rest of the band, and the cohesion of it all recontextualized that dude for me in a way no other live show I've seen personally or on video ever has.
But I also accept Mac's set(and .Paak's, which is simply really awesome if not remarkable in the same way) is more than sing-songy enough that it can be argued out of being a "hip-hop" set. While Gibbs' is absolutely just a pure breath control and charisma clinic and El Michels Affair are no slouches obviously.

and I agree, this one is dope af
always loved their sound. Not enough to buy an album but all their hits were on point.

Saw them about a year and a half ago and had a great time. This is a more low key performance of course but I love how Tiny Desk is doing it. Great shit.
I wanted to like it more. To me the horns just sounded random and not really like the actual songs for the most part. It did work in some parts but I think it can be done better. I thought Sen and B-Real sounded good but I agree that I kind of wanted them to have more energy.
Temples of Boom is still one of my favorite albums of all time, so dark and nihilistic in that Mobb Deep "Hell On Earth" / SMif N Wessun "Dah Shinin" type of spookiness
