>Have we even talked about Individual 1 saying he’d >still break the law if given the chance? I’ve lost track
... sooooooooooooooooooooo fucking nice staying off the grid (intentionally - I had internet/phone/data access) for most of the trip. Not seeing Individual 1's daily bullshit was huge for my mental wellbeing.
On the flight home I watched "Vice" about President Cheney, which was an interesting reminder of just how bad that admin was and how they're largely responsible for the mess(es) we're in now. I've said it a lot around here but it's easy to forget just how deplorable Cheney and Bush were. And this movie reminded me just how easily manipulated Bush was, and how manipulative Cheney was.
Republicans are fucking TRASH forever man. On a perpetual mission to ruin everyone's lives.

That shit was awful
Trump is an ass and an awful dude but Cheney had no chill.
**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

I didn't realize I was so close to Chris Hayes' age, but he popped up on my timeline yesterday putting words on a sentiment I've felt for awhile but couldn't articulate quite as clearly:
"A formative experience for me was watching a whole bunch of people with lots of authority and pedigrees support an Iraq war that seemed to me, as a 23 year old without expertise, completely insane and criminal."
It's really kind of staggering to continue existing in a political climate where we've retained our this war as an important part of our political discourse while tacking so few of its consequences to the people who were directly responsible. They're amoral monsters and aren't qualified to continue making decisions. I don't see any way around describing people who led us into war as anything but:
a)incredibly stupid b)deeply dishonest c)both
Trump won't be personally rehabilitated. Boomer liberals hate him personally and there's no coming back from that. But his appointees and congressional cheerleaders will. They'll get jobs on TV or on K street and leverage those jobs into creeping normal-ness because political consequences are probably dead and, honestly, legal consequences for the rich and important have been dead for decades now.

And I honestly wasn't disappointed when the Obama administration chose to let them all skate. I really believed the political consequences of the 2008 election would've sufficed. This was, obviously, way off from reality.
