"The National Weather Service issues warnings directly to the public"

Last night they issued one for a violent tornado in Missouri

https://www.npr.org/2019/05/23/726006657/violent-tornadoes-cause-catastrophic-damage-in-missouri-killing-at-least-3

It ended up being catastrophic and killing three people

But it could have been so much worse.

The head of the National Weather Service is now the former CEO of Accuweather who in his CEO role lobbied Congress to not allow the NWS to issue public warnings

http://www.tampabay.com/florida-politics/buzz/2019/04/29/this-trump-appointee-has-a-history-of-fighting-the-national-weather-service-will-scott-and-rubio-support-him-anyway/

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ceo-barry-myers-trump-s-pick-noaa-head-clashed-weather-n810386

His company packages the data from the NWS and presents it like their own.

If it was his call as legislation, the idea to reach out to the public last night from the government would not have come, it would've come from his for profit company ... which is not accountable to the people but derives their business from our tax dollars.

These are the kind of people in government and between the latest news about Devos

https://www.newsweek.com/betsy-devos-use-personal-email-work-trump-1431800

Carson

http://rss.cnn.com/~r/rss/cnn_latest/~3/okJl5uy3BcM/index.html

And the super rich with the IRS

http://feeds.latimes.com/~r/latimes/business/~3/2Yr6EPaqyU4/la-fi-irs-tax-audit-super-rich-20190520-story.html

Is the reason that I argue for an impeachment inquiry, because these folks are grifters and cons, but not yet criminal as the Trump family. Once criminal investigations start to come, they'll look to jump ship, until ... each and every one of these people is personally enriching themselves at our expense and detriment

I don't feel confident that I'll survive to the election. I hope, but there's a true sense of doubt and resignation there.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

My biggest challenges to existence were police and random car accidents.
Outside of that, my life typically isn't in jeopardy.
Oh and plane crashes because I travel so much.

But now:

Meat recalls when testing and government trust are already low

Dangerous vehicles given the side eye even past the time they've killed folks

The weather link I sent, where there's consideration to actually not have the notification go through government, all while hurricane season is approaching

Oh there's another ebola outbreak but have you heard from our CDC?

And so on and so on.

Addendum: oh an rising white supremacist violence

oligarchs buying elections, commercial allies running important agencies, relatives installed into political positions, marginalization of the power of the legislative/representative body, legalization of bribery in campaign finance, suppressing the voting power of political opposition, etc.

america is one of the most blatant but least acknowledged banana republics.

At this point people are negotiating what will be.

Tom Cotton is 42 years old

Has such an inflated amount of sway to render the country useless. The day he becomes the leader of their party it's pure bottom.

basically everything wrong going on right now can be traced to the stolen election of 2000.

the john roberts supreme court and all of the horrendous rulings coming out of it. citizens united, dismantling the voting rights act, etc.

9/11 and the global war on terror and increasing anti-muslim sentiment. (bush never got blamed for the largest national security failure in our history...til this day)

the iraq war...the destabilization of the region...the rise of isis...the arab spring...the syrian civil war...mass refugee exodus to europe...steep rise in white nationalist sentiment...

the recession...collapse of rural america...opiod crisis...

kanye west entrance into politics (lol)

as a cherry on top. the rapidly declining birth rate after the recession (we just reached a 32 year low and falling).
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D6m_ZyXW4AAWxHl.jpg

the last bush year was literally the last year there were more births than deaths. and look how rapid that decline is after that.
