"The Chi season 2..."

just had a really good episode in #4

Episode 1 was pretty predictable imo, but this season is a gripping as the first.

Still has the same flow of the first season without sacrificing anything.

Lena Waite kinda doing her thing with this one.

I don’t get how folks hate on these shows but at least you admit you are a hater so it may not be based on anything substantial.

Same with snowfall. One person was like “meh, we already know that story”

Always seems like we put more demands on Black shows than other shows.

It was stereotypical and too rich in pornographic poverty, for me. A creator/producer/writer from Evanston IL (privileged enough to be supported for years in Hollywood by a parent paying their rent) about perspectives of Chicago's poor and Black South Side, it visually manifested that often criticized and demonized Fox News version of Black folk in that city.

At a U of Wisconsin talk, when confronted on similar criticisms, her responses were very dismissive.

And then the tone deaf issue during production.

So every time I watched I cringed.

None-the-less, I support her projects and view her role as valuable and important.

the brutality really makes this show.

Like that scene with Jake and the other gang bangers in the lunch room ending up in a food fight after such a tense build up.

Dang @ Q and Kima/Brandon's Mama seemingly not coming back. I'm holding out hope they have Q come back as a ghost or in a dream sequence.

Dude stay with a lil plan. Irresponsible but genuinely trying to be better.
The complexity of the characters is even better than it was in the first season.
Ronnie's story line definitely provokes a good amount of sympathy as well.

The good news is the show was already renewed for a 3rd season. The bad news is it'll be losing one of its main characters. Gonna be interesting to see how they make this work w/o such an important character. Looks like he was dropped from pretty much everything he was a part of too.

https://deadline.com/2019/05/jason-mitchell-fired-uta-authentic-dropped-the-chi-desperados-misconduct-allegations-1202618811/
EXCLUSIVE: Rising star actor Jason Mitchell (The Chi, Straight Outta Compton) is facing a career crisis over allegations of inappropriate behavior. The specifics are sketchy, but I hear the accusations were so serious they have led to Mitchell being dropped by his agency, UTA; management company, Authentic Talent & Literary Management; a Netflix movie he had been cast in as a lead, Desperados; and the successful Showtime drama he stars in, The Chi.

I hear the dismissal from dramedy Desperados, a Good Universe production for Netflix, came first. I hear the decision was made after the producers had received information about an alleged off-set incident. The incident was investigated immediately and thoroughly, leading to Mitchell’s termination from Desperados, in which he was to star opposite Nasim Pedrad, Anna Camp and Robbie Amell.

Mitchell was also quickly fired by UTA and Authentic. (Reps for both companies confirmed to Deadline that Mitchell is no longer a client but would not comment further.)

I hear word of the incident involving the actor then reached producers of Showtime drama The Chi, recently picked up for a third season, on which Mitchell plays a lead. In light of the seriousness of the allegations, I hear the studio, Fox 21 TV Studios, opted not to pick up Mitchell’s option for next season.

Reps for Fox 21 and Showtime confirmed to Deadline that Mitchell would not continue on The Chi beyond its current second season, declining further comment. I hear the actor had previously been under scrutiny over an alleged inappropriate behavior situation on the show involving a female co-star, which had been resolved.

Mitchell, an in-demand actor following his breakout role in Straight Outta Compton, was investigated for assault in 2016 when a woman publicly accused him of slamming her to the ground in a Boston hotel.

On the Lena Waithe-created The Chi, Mitchell plays Brandon, a popular young man striving to better himself and open his own restaurant. Season 2 spotlights Brandon’s ambitious plan for his food truck business. For his role on the show, Mitchell is nominated for MTV Movie & TV Awards in the Best Performance In a Show category.

In addition to his role as Eazy-E in Straight Outta Compton, which earned him the African American Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actor, Mitchell also starred in Kong: Skull Island and appeared in Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit, Mudbound and The Mustang.

Attempts by Deadline to reach Mitchell for comment through representatives were unsuccessful.

suspicion that it was her.

It's unfortunate that she or any person would have to or be expected to work in conditions where they feel uncomfortable as a result of someone's inability to be a stand-up person on the job site.

Is it wrong to assume that the alleged actions are, in fact, true considering he's been so quickly dropped from the show, his other jobs, and even his agency?

And honestly, I can't see or understand how, in today's climate, anyone could think acting in this way - the kind that leads to these types of charges/allegations - is beneficial to their future.

I was wondering how that situation was gonna play out with Emmett and coach. Then the detectives trying to get to the bottom of the attack on Ms. Ethel is the kind of thing that entire series are built around. I can totally see how Brandon being the "fish" can be the plan to get Jason Mitchell off the show. Kevin walking funny outta the school was real life lol. So many story lines and all of them are really good... could all be their own show.

witness protection?

Almost felt like his GF is the one who is left the show first.

I hope they continue the show and have a smooth transition or at least a realistic departure for Brandon.

Thats what i read...that she left first.
And yeah, witness protection seems like the only way to make it somewhat smooth.

But did part of this feel like the SERIES finale to yall? Like, they were moving things in directions that could be the end of a show.

but they say it’s renewed for season 3.

I wonder if they already have a few scenes done since it was announced after 4 episodes

Is she wrong? Is he wrong?

Seems like dude got set up perfectly as bait for the detective.

My thing tho is Brandon’s SO is doing grimy shit with the alderman and will more than likely continue to do grimy shit now that she is in politics.

but since she gets to wear nice clothes while doing it all is cool?

I was mad at how that relationship ended. That’s the way it is sometimes.

He didn’t make the connection until it was too late.

they're just too different

She's never gonna understand where he's coming from even though she's tried. He's sick of being judged and looked down on by her, especially given shes involved with her own brand of slimey people. He doesn't want to keep trying to live up to her standards. She doesn't feel she should have to compromise hers for him

spriraling out of control since his brother died and she tried to hang but there is only so much riding and dying that can be done.

At first he was an up and coming chef but that fell apart and messed around with owner's wife(did she ever know about that?) then he got the food truck that wasn't really making a lot of money. Then everybody told him that Mr Perry dude was bad news including her and his Mama's boyfriend and even Reg. He got involved with him anyway then lied about it and put both of their lives in danger. He told her to quit her job working for her parents real estate company that they were about turn over to her because "he had them".

Her "grimy" political shit wasn't putting their lives in danger and getting her arrested.

It did piss me off that he kept talking to that female detective with no attorney present and I guess Ronnie just left Tracy stranded to go hang out with his dad lol.

She failed to understand his difficulties in life. That suburban life will blind your outlook on reality. From his brother getting killed to his involvement with Perry, she had her blinders on the entire time. It also didn’t help that she has a clan of mindless friends co-signing her stupidity. In real life you have to mix the good with the bad at times when it comes to business. If her character remains she will find this out if she keeps mixing business with the political world. Business and politics will always be filled with dirty folk.

He did get set up, but that was by design. Brandon wasn’t aware in the beginning, but once he saw the connection between Reg and Perry plus what others were telling him then he should’ve been more alert. He was stupid to have that gun on the truck, especially knowing that it had bodies on it. He was even dumber going to the police at the end when Perry is helping your business. He was letting the emotions of losing his girl lead him to a stupid decision. If they do bring Brandon’s character back (I don’t see how they can’t since his role is too important), he will probably end up dead.
