"Poll question: Primary Domestic issues for Black People in 2020 Election"

Black people are in an increasingly desparate situation as this administration destroys many of the legal and social advances that were made over the past 50 years. As one famous lawyer recently stated, Trump's judges don't believe in the Fair Housing Act, Immigration and Nationalization Act, Voting Rights Act, Equal Rights Amendment, Medicare Act, or any of the other advances of the 1960s and Black people are in a very dangerous place with these judges.

After listening to some of the questions on the CNN townhall with Kamala Harris, it seemed to me that some of these college students are "extremely-online" as they say on twitter. People asking about Reparations and Legalizing Sex work, as if there was actually going to be a House and Senate that would pass these things. I know that I'm a radical but how does reparations get more airtime during a cable TV townhall than gentrification, Stand Your Ground, the educational achievement gap (hell the entire whitewashed US educational system curriculum), Mitch McConnell's stolen Supreme Court seats, Anthony Kennedy's son being Trump's financier, the extreme hate emanating from the Right Wing Media, etc.

I get that we're so online now that we're going to talk about "integration vs segregation" before we can even get to a discussion about the Black community in America making electoral demands. I actually think that I should add "Creating a modern information/news ecosystem" into the poll because really Black people under 40 are being radicalized online by Russian propaganda while their parents are being inundated with Trump 24-7 on MSNBC and CNN.

It's wild having to actually hear Black boomers discuss Ilhan Omar as if she was a anti-semite.

Poll result (19 votes)
Abolishing Prisons (0 votes)Vote
Reparations for Black Americans (8 votes)Vote
Education Reform (2 votes)Vote
Impeaching Trump/Removing Trumps Judges/Jailing McConnell (2 votes)Vote
Medicare for all (4 votes)Vote
Universal Basic Income (3 votes)Vote

In response to Reply # 3

I mean, abolishing prisons is an aspect of ending mass incarceration.

I think that the abolition movement is too literal to fully encompass the philosophy and theory behind restorative justice but it hits hard and could be useful because the violations associated with the prison system are so harsh. Also, the concept is based off of the fact that the 13th amendment still allows slavery for crimes, so the history of abolition is embedded in the fight.

America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

I think people are expecting the FBI to do the work when the FBI is rife with racists. I think the issue of online radicalization is so deep that we need a Black cybercommand to address the issue. Clearly Anonymous was a Russian frontgroup because their bitchasses bluffed their way into oblivion.

HOME OWNERSHIP is the number one way to build wealth and secure financial leverage to do just about everything needed to create freedom.

Anyone that doesn't want to own a house/ real estate doesn't understand economics and how powerful owning land really can be to helping create generational wealth.

From 2002 to 2014 the federal government devised a method of providing cheap loans for nontraditional borrowers (black and brown people) that ended up with a massive loss of wealth and a foreclosure crisis. the democrats and tim geithner decided the government should provide a glidepath for banks to siphon off billions while homeowners were given nothing.

because right now the schools have basically resegregated to pre1970 levels and white people are basically abandoning affirmative action. While charter schools are terrible for Black people because they're so poorly managed, they might be a saving grace for school districts that are so deep under the thumb of white ruled state legislatures (like baltimore is under the state of maryland). They are actually more independent from state restrictions on curriculum.

Any black person who think they will actually get any real money from the United States Of America is dumb as bricks; by real money I mean more than $500.

This country is like a melting pot of culture & racial mixing that it's a shame, there would be so many people who have never claimed to be colored, negro, black, african-american who has never claimed to be one in their entire life come out the woodworks to be apart of that collective to claim a check.

The only reason they are bringing this subject matter up is cause of how black people only pay attention to politics when it's about money & jobs they could receive, or a break on an illegal matter; they know it's just to get you riled up, but all they plan on really doing is just creating a committee or organization to look into the matter with no plans of actually going thru with any of it, you know the response... "You know that's a real good question, I'll look into that, might form a group or committee to come up with a possible solution" and black people fall for it every damn time.

It's like when a politician brings up welfare, confederate flags, prison reform, legalizing marijuana, equal employment opportunity, social security, etc. to peak interest to get people to follow & vote for them during election time, then as soon as elections are over you don't hear shit from any of those people who got elected.

Black people will never get any monetary compensation from the US government. They didn’t get what they were promised during the Lincoln presidency and they won’t get anything now. We didn’t even push Obama to give reparations to black people, so you think in that mind of yours that it’s going to happen? The days of believing, waiting, and seeing should be over and done with for black people but it’s not.

Anything Blacks fight for as a group will come with those Blacks who speak against it, discourage it, fight it, and sabotage it. It's always going to be those paralyzed with fear that say, don't try, fight or challenge anything. Yeah forgot reparations and focus on pulling up sagging pants , that's the big picture. Fighting slavery and lynching a waste of our ancestors time. What was wrong with them.

We had 8 years with a black face in office and we said not a word. Too many were just satisfied with having representation while we got no results. Blacks on a whole didn’t even push the issue with Obama there, so we are supposed to mount a charge now? How asinine to think that we can get something of this magnitude accomplished.

And changing our mindset and getting out of the prison mentality is the big picture.

because if we can’t rally together then nothing will get done. Folks like you are steady giving black folks a pass for what we’re not doing. Yet and still we are falling behind while we’re fighting whitey to give us reparations. No one can seem to understand that we had 8 years of Obama and our community got zero, but hold him up as some hero. If we continue to fail to look within and address our own matters then things will not change. So you can stay delusional about the status of black people here, and keep fighting whitey on things that we can change and control.

Yeah part of "rally together" is not giving up.

Folks like you are steady giving black folks a pass for
>what we’re not doing.

lol is that what folks are doing ?

Yet and still we are falling behind
>while we’re fighting whitey to give us reparations.

We get ahead by quitting before we start ?

>No one

Hmmmmm the Obama thing is a strawman, I'll explain it below.

>If we

Your words

"blacks still won’t get anything if the attitude was different"

"Black people will never get any monetary compensation from the US government. They didn’t get what they were promised during the Lincoln presidency and they won’t get anything now."

and you follow up those comments with this

"We didn’t even push Obama to give reparations to black people, so you think in that mind of yours that it’s going to happen?"

"We had 8 years with a black face in office and we said not a word. Too many were just satisfied with having representation while we got no results. Blacks on a whole didn’t even push the issue with Obama there"

See the problem with that ? Why would Obama do anything about reparations and why would we say a word or push the issue when "Black people will never get any monetary compensation"

I mean if you were consistent and "genius" you wouldn't question why Obama did nothing and we didn't push.

I never said Obama was a hero and I never gave anyone a pass. Using that is just a strawman.

Actually it is... you need to understand that reparations will never happen. If our grandparents and great grandparents never received it then we sure as hell won’t

Which is why I make the point that blacks will never receive reparations from the government. So my question to you is that why do black people continue to push whitey or even not support a white candidate who doesn’t want to give blacks reparations? Yet no one put the fire to Obama in his 8 years in office. There is the hypocrisy with us. Because you won’t acknowledge the fact that Obama could’ve done more on the front of helping black people in terms of monetary compensation is giving him a pass. There is nothing wrong with what I said or the example that I gave. Blacks don’t hold our own to a higher standard because we know that whites won’t get it done for us, and then the black politicians skate on by with no criticism. Black politicians know that they will receive a majority of the black vote. They don’t do anything special or work to earn the vote that they get.

26. "My Top 3 Issues"
In response to Reply # 0
Fri May-17-19 11:28 PM by jane eyre

#1 Voting Rights and Election Reform
The direction of this issue boils down to a nefarious conversation and political struggle about citizenship. Who is. Who isn't. And how much of one a person can be. Tale as old as time.

#2 Education Reform
1,000%, education reform should include required citizenship courses for K-12 and undergraduate students *AND* required information literacy instruction for K-12 and undergraduate students.

#3 Health Care
This is an issue that as a whole, we may take for granted. Extreme health disparities and outcomes, especially for Black mothers-to-be, are alarming. A cliche, now, perhaps, but as Audre Lorde says: “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

In any other given year, my top 3 might be different. Currently, my #1 & #2 switch places, depending.

I'm not sure if people--myself included--quite get the full implications of the sobering gains the judicial and legal system has usurped since the beginning of the Trump administration.

And rehab, and mental care.
Think bigger than just a check. But a check should definitely be included.

I'm a staunch prison reform advocate, believe me, but an adequate reparations package will include that

Or a added component. I have admittedly not followed the most recent reparations debates due to the overall threat to even more basic advances. I can see how after the civil war we may want to include reparations in the black marshall plan.

America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

Knowing how our country has always ripped people off by rewording & stating contracts and laws, they probably will never actually put any of the following words or types for reparations: negro, colored, black, afro-american, or even african-american; they probably will include minority or non-white-british descent (which means all other races will be able to collect such as latino, jewish, irish, italian, asian, native american, islander, arab, etc.), also what about all the black mixed race people in this country that are half or a percentage of a caucasian, do they meet the requirements or just a percentage?

I ask this cause this is how loopholes are put in place to benefit those who suppose to not receive anything, but always seem to, lawyers are great at doing things like that.
