This is the longest I've had one (both in length and time - 2-3" and 5 months) and it still feels like it's wearing my face. It looks alright, but I clearly could never have been a spy because I'd give away a disguise instantly.
All this is to say that I fiddle with it subconsciously a lot, sometimes in public, and I'm watching replies here carefully because "don't do that" isn't a viable option and I may have to shave.

is it at all due to discomfort/itchiness??
i think when i grew it out i would find myself touching it more than i would want to lol
not sure when that stopped. it was never itchy though. ill still stroke my chin here and there but im sure i would do that even if i had no facial hair.
i think as long as youre not twirling it in your fingers youre good lol

I used to be a fingernail biter, but not so much lately. It's gross, but like I said - I'm a really anxious person.

For me, the itch window is about from week one to the end of week two. After that, it's not really that itchy - though I agree that there's something pretty appealing about stroking one's chin. It makes me feel smart.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I can't promise there hasn't been twirling.

and sometimes I touch it in public, like if I'm pondering something. I generally don't feel self-conscious about it though.
But I have a fro and if I'm not paying attention I'll put my hand in my hair and start playing with it and immediately feel self-conscious. I think it's because I reflexively think it isn't manly, but that's whatever.
I wouldn't judge anyone who did play with their beard tho.

I’m confused.
This a man law I missed out on? Never heard this shit a in my life. I’m always touching my face / facial hair. For a few reasons, but it’s defintely something I do.
But I’m always in my head thinking heavy about something.

It's obvious-as-hell. Guess it's something that I notice as a dude since they do it to get my attention. Trust that every hair flip around other people is done for a reason.

Of course, this only applies to when someone is engaged with someone else. I rub my beard and play with my afro when I'm alone thinking, but I avoid touching myself at all when I'm talking to someone else.
