Trump is bringing a fresh perspective to government which is refreshing. Reforming education, protecting borders and rejuvenating the heartland. We may not agree with it, but there are MILLIONS who do.
Even Bernie's free college is fizzling because states are starting to offer this. Democrats right now have nothing in terms of progressive change. Going back to the Obama days is not an option.
Optics also matter. Biden and Abrams don't have good optics.
Beto and Kamala, are better, but again what is the one liner that will stick in America's brain? It has to be better than "Build that Wall".

Unfortunately this is one of the reasons why I think it will be hard for another Black candidate to win. Black candidates have to be extra special for us to vote for them. rubs me the wrong way about it.
I knew it was somehow related to the blatantly obvious tokenism but...yes, it's this feeling of her being selected to neutralize criticism of his past controversies.
It's so annoying that she has to be burdened with his baggage to get this kind of opportunity. With Obama it was different, because HE chose Biden and had ample time (and motivation) to come to terms with that Faustian bargain. But with Abrams... it just feels like she has less power in the situation I guess. I mean, who's going to say no to VP from the guy leading in the polls, honestly. Especially when she's said on record multiple times she plans to run for pres in 2028. VP at this stage is great for her plan.
But I just wish it wasn't tainted with all his crap. I cringe at her having to fake smile in some interview, defending his past stances on Anita Hill, the Crime bill/mass incarceration, etc. If any of that stuff comes up even once (and it will, bc the MSM has zero discipline) she would quite literally be stuck being his political "maid" and I HATE the optics of that.
The other thing that has struck me about Biden lately.. is I think he might have pulled an HRC and secured support from all the superdelegates lol. I know the DNC changed the rules for this election, but I've been coming across more and more talking heads mentioning the possibility of a contested convention. There are so many candidates running that many lanes could end up with a split vote, so if there's no overwhelming majority leaning to one candidate the superdelegates decide right? I'm beginning to think this is why Biden is already behaving like he will be the nominee.

The segment of the population that most reliably votes Democrat are Black women. Especially young Black women. And they are a growing part of the electorate. Having a young Black woman on the ticket to energize that base and get people out to vote in states like Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin is a good thing and could turn the election in 2020.
I sure as shit don't trust white people in those aforementioned swing states to do the right thing and not vote for Drumf, so making any move to appeal to them at VP is a complete waste of time.
As for people complaining about her being "used," come the fuck on. ***EVERY*** VP candidate get "used" by the presidential candidate. Obama was "using" Biden in order to get middle class white people who were worried about his lack of foreign policy experience. Drumf used Pence to appeal to hardcore rank and file Republicans.
And regardless, the subtext of Biden running will always be that he very well may only serve one term, so this would put her in a better position to become President as early as 2024.

For example, the teasing bullshit and using her name/affiliation to win votes for the nomination basically doubles-down on the tokenism in a way that reeks of the tone-deafness one would expect from Biden. Even just announcing her has his running mate, like normal, if he won the nom would have been better than this look what I've got up my sleeve bullshit. It's a little insulting. Like if Kirsten Gillibrand started dropping hints before even entering the race that she's picking Al Sharpton as her VP or something.

What policy platforms if Biden/Abrams is supposed to endear my vote to them? I honestly sided with Abrams in the GA election on the principle of voter suppression but would have to dig into her record in GA. However, not sure if I would prefer he experientially. I would say the same for AOC for that matter and I love her political tenacity.
My ideal ticket is still Sanders/Gabbard which aligns with my political stances and even has a sprinkle if identity politics on top - SECONDARY to the real issues and policies at hand we need to implement.

His age is really the main detriment, turns 77 this year. But, I think an old white man that often puts his shoe in mouth may be the best thing to counter Trump with. I could see some of Trump's base actually voting for Biden where I don't see them voting for Bernie and certainly not Kamala, Warren, Beto or Booker. Democrats should all vote for the party this time no matter who is chosen so if can take away some of Trump's base would be the best path to victory imo.
