2 Chainz - Rap or Go to the League
Dude has seriously grown on me over the years. Truuuuuuu!

Sammie - EVERLASTING - 2/13
I've heard singles and recent collabs with Sammie. I got his album loaded up to check out.

Solange - When I Get Home - 19/19
And I'm looking forward to giving Solange's new release a try. I heard so many things about her last album that I'm intrigues enough to give her a shot. I never heard the last album either. Just heard good things about it.

this was pretty great. i havent heard any other 2 chainz albums, only features. didnt know what to expect. it starts off great, then its mostly good for the rest of the way. i have a feeling most of the songs im not crazy about will grow on me with more listens and in the car.

whip, girls best friend and 2 dollar bill might be the only ones that i wont like.

5. "probably the best 2 chainz project"
In response to Reply # 1
Fri Mar-01-19 03:43 PM by bearfield

his rapping is more considered and less tossed off than it usually is. it seems like he's making a point of letting the listeners know that he can really rap when he wants to. he's tackling sensitive subjects with a touch that is more deft and light than his rapping persona suggests he's capable of. he still has his goofy punchlines and brags though. this album presents what is likely the best version of 2 chainz as a pure rapper

this one loses a few points for being indebted to late 90s hip hop, though it's mostly a good thing. it feels like every other track i was reminded of a particular style, mode, or producer. the first handful of tracks feel like some early ye/blaze/bink! instrumentals. "rule the world" sounds like something amerie passed on in 1999. he floats through a lot of different styles of beats and generally has no issues rapping over any particular one, although this project exposed his poor pocket. he sounds more at home over trap beats than late 90s studio album bangers. i have to point out that his flow on "momma i hit a lick" is bonkers, far overshadowing kendrick's performance (and his biting of valee's flow). the last track is a tone deaf travesty. whining about making so much money that you get taxed a lot is not a good look. 37% is not 50%, mr. epps!

overall it's a high quality project. the beats are generally very good, if a little familiar, and his rapping is the best it's ever been. he's rapping about real issues that affect folks from all walks of life but still has his sense of humor and effortless cool

Ariana Grande's feature made me look at her differently.

All I could do when I heard the strings was belt out:

"Why don't we, don't we (Why can't we)
Why don't we (Why can't we), why don't we (Why can't we)
Why don't we, why don't we fall in love (We, can't we fall)
Why don't we, why don't we (Yeah, yeah)
Why don't we, why don't we fall in love (Oh)
Why (Yeah)"

Just looked it up. It's been almost 17 years since Amerie's song dropped. DAYUM!

I still vouch for that album. I shoehorned Nothing Like Loving You into hella 'lay together' playlists FOR YEARS.

I thought this was the WORST 2 Chainz in a while. I'd at least put Pretty Girls, BOATS, BOATS II, Codeine Cowboy and Trapavelli 2 behind it.

New one felt kind of lazy and half-assed to me to be honest.

so doja cat actually was last year, deluxe was this year. 3 new songs, one being mooo. it was okay, shes more than a novelty act but not great.

solange. the music is great, songs arent really songs?? i mostly enjoyed it. her voice is good, i prefer it to beyonce. some songs definitely hit. i would listen to more of her. i feel about it the same way a lot of people seemed to feel about worldwide underground. is this complete?? a lot of great ideas or starts to songs but wish there was more to them.

i dont see myself coming back to tracks without vocals on the clever austin album. the come is coming one though was more my liking though. i would still prefer it had vocals but i can see myself listening to that one more.

thanks for the recommendations.

Don't know if you're into Korean music at all, but it's a really good hip-hop/R&B release in my opinion. The track produced by BTS' Suga, "Eternal Sunshine," might be my favorite and honestly reminds me a little bit of the Mountain Brothers. And "No Different" featuring Yuna (pretty popular Malaysian singer) is all in English and is also a highlight.

i liked this. its not great but its a cool short listen. could see myself bumping this during a late night drive. the beats are kind of generic, the hooks are where this shines. verses are good but get generic too.

for some reason i thought zacari was a girl, i think i just mix up names in my head lol. i could go for more songs featuring zacari though.

a bit sleepy for my taste. it gets going towards the middle but then almost lost me with the last 4 tracks. or the first 3 tracks of the last 4?? the last track was cool but the three before were too sleepy.

i can see some songs in this growing on me though.

im not big on R&B but this hit. the beats are great and i really like her voice. i could definitely go for more of this. Rare was my favorite song but all 5 songs are great.

also checked out Christian Scott's Ancestral Recall as mentioned above. not really my thing. i could definitely see some good rap producers working with him to make some great stuff but not really any album ill come back to. it was good but not my thing.

maybe the best of the year. the rapping is good but not really my vibe. i can see it growing on me.

great album, definitely a must listen to.

the phonte ep has some really good beats too. i enjoyed it but i can see folks not being into his singing. the last song has him rapping. its only 4 songs, definitely worth a listen.

woods can definitely be an acquired taste, but I think this might be his most consistent release.

I won't pretend to be an expert on Kenny Segal, but the stuff he's done with Milo is great too.

Milo can also be an acquired taste, but for different reasons.

This was the track that started to really sell me. Apologies if you've heard it/were already aware.
