"About these joint 80s/90s RnB concerts (BBD, Guy, Jodeci, et al)"

*EDITED 'cause these forums don't like the ampersand symbol in the subject field.*

I'm on the verge of buying a last-minute ticket to see Guy & BBD with Ginuwine, K-CI of Jodeci and 702.

I really only want to see BBD and Guy, especially the former. However, the tickets are cheap enough where I wouldn't mind sitting through the other acts.

BBD puts on a great show from what I've seen on YouTube and Instagram and from what I've heard. Unfortunately, this really isn't *their* show. This is one of those shows where each act has a shorter set performing their major hits and then bounces.

High-key, I want to go for the laughs. K-CI by himself? Yeah, that'll be fun. There's an old video clip of him eating fried chicken during an outdoor performance while getting a piggyback ride back to the stage... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Mcb_DhpuA

Remember when Jodeci went on tour a few years ago? Dalvin, who is probably the most put together, fell off stage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vebXu7i-OqY
I felt so bad for him but that shit was funny. He was the last one that should have happened to. He wasn't high, ill or obviously on drugs (See: Jo-Jo).

Now, Jo-Jo passing out on stage while K-CI keeps performing...Yeah, that really isn't funny now is it?!

*stifles laughter*
(See 0:20 mark here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLeXoMwc7eo)

Tell me about your experiences seeing these kinds of artists perform in *recent years*. I want to be entertained.

Also: Are there any late 1980s/1990s artists worth seeing? Any there artists that I should pass on?

I really want to see Troop. I follow Allen McNeil aka AL MAC on Instagram and they're still out there performing their legendary dance routines...Okay, okay. *Modified* versions of their legendary dance routines...

It was Dru Hill, Ginuwine, Monica, Jagged Edge, Guy and Teddy Riley. I really wanted to see Dru Hill, buttttt we got there an hour late and missed them and Ginuwine

No crazy stories but the artists we did see were all entertaining, and honestly Guy/Teddy Riley was the most unexpected performance of them all. Their set was super slick, and felt professionally produced, almost like something you'd see on an awards show. Definitely a pleasant surprise.

Also, the crowd was into it, and living in the very white suburbs of Chicago, it was so pleasurable to be around black folks having a good time. All in all a good time.

This is good to know. I read a recap of a show that took place in 2017 or 2018 and the review was not good. I think Teddy got booed or something. ;-(

Was an outdoor concert too.

Had tickets to the show. We all bought new gear for the show.

Road the bus up to the arena and they “didn’t even get all the equipment out”

NE’s road manager shot and killed on of Guys goons who jumped them while they were setting up for the show.

Pittsburgh didn’t have any more big hip hop shows for years.

1. can't watch them all fat, slow, and sloppy singing sex songs (which a majority of that 90s stuff was)

2. most of their voices are shot

3. few of them have any new material to back up their old hits - which is why they tour with like 12 groups (two or three songs, then off, another 2 or three then off)

that ish is depressing

i used to clown my mom back in the day when they had those local station "revues" on TV all the time of artists from the 50s-60s - but at least THOSE folks had songs that had a little more longevity

what i look like watching 50-year-old men not-quite-singing "do me baby" over a DAT?

SWV was alright. Koko was sick & was losing her voice. The other 2 tried to cover.

BBD was OK. Honestly, they were a little sloppy but with everyone knowing their songs plus the nostalgia factor, it was still fun.

En Vogue? They killed it. Cindy, Terry and the new woman (forgot her name) absolutely tore it up. They had us out here looking for when the next EV album was gonna drop.

I enjoy the old school revues a lot. Not everyone can still carry it but it's a great flashback to my glory days.
