"late 70's/early 80's disco-y type playlist help"
Sat Feb-02-19 05:12 PM by c71

I'm making some playlists. They've been pretty satisfying so far. My late 70's/early 80's disco-y playist probably could use more songs.

So......

Let's see if there's any really satisfying songs of this era that for some reason I have overlooked (that y'all are keenly aware of)

The playlist (so far - In the order from most satisfying to me to the least - with stars for emphasis):

What Cha gonna do with my lovin' - Stephanie Mills ********

He's the greatest dancer - Sister Sledge ******

I want to thank you - Alicia Myers *****

Do it to the music - Raw Silk ****

I like what you're doing to me - Young and Company ***

I specialize in love - Sharon Brown ***

Back together again - Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway***

A lover's holiday - Change

Love Sensation - Loleatta Holloway

Love thang - First Choice

Runaway - Loleatta Holloway

Love come down - Evelyn "Champagne" King

Hit & Run - Loleatta Holloway

Jump to it - Aretha Franklin

Circles - Atlantic Starr

Stone love - Kashif

-------------------=

I already am aware of some good songs that I don't want to add to this playlist (for finicky reasons)

songs like:

Mother used to say - Junior

Two hearts - Stephanie Mills and Teddy Pendergrass

Glow of love, Searching - Change

Good times, Le Freak, I want your love - Chic

Love hangover - Diana Ross

Caught up in a one night love affair - Inner life

Fool's paradise - Meli'sa Morgan

She's a bad mama jama - Carl Carlton

And the beat goes on - The Whispers

It's a love thang - The Whispers

You used to hold me so tight - Thelma Houston

You dropped a bomb on me - The GAP band

Burn rubber - The GAP band

Take your time - The SOS band

Padlock - Gwen Guthrie

Say, say, say (you get the best of me) - Alicia Myers

Cherchez le femme - Dr. Buzzard's original Savannah Band

Don't stop till you get enough - Michael Jackson

I want to be your lover - Prince

You and I - Rick James

Heaven must be missing an angel, It only takes a minute - Tavares

She used to be my girl - The O'jays

You gonna make me love somebody else - The Jones Girls

Got to give it up - Marvin Gaye

Shame, I don't know if it's right, I'm in love - Evelyn "Champagne" King

I'm every woman, Whatcha gonna do for me? Papilion - Chaka Khan

Do you love what you feel? - Rufus featuring Chaka Khan

The Groove line - Heatwave

Keep on jumpin' - Musique

Never too much - Luther Vandross

Ecstasy (when you lay down next to me) - Barry White

(No Sylvester)

------------

So....any others songs y'all can think of that can "improve" my late 70's/early 80's disco-y playlist?

Luther Vandross was the producer on that. He was the new hot artist and his version of the song plays for a full minute and forty eight seconds before Aretha comes in. When she heard his version she threw a fit and so thats why there is a single version where she comes in a lot early around 26 seconds

Stephanie Mills and Sister Sledge and Loleatta Holloway seem "disco-y" to me. That's the way I remember them as a youngster around those years.

stuff, I was surprised at how much I remembered most of the "highlights" of this late 70's/early 80's era. Because my playlist is so short, I thought there must be some songs that slipped my mind.

but, after checking out that spotify boogie/post-disco/funk playlist that double negative posted, I really remembered most of what I probably valued of that era, besides some of the other suggestions people posted.

My others playlists for different genres are longer so I don't know why there isn't more songs, but then songs like "never too much" and "le freak" "don't stop till you get enough" I've heard too much, even though they belong there.

to transcend being played "too much" for me.

"love come down" has overcome being played too much for me.

So....I sort of was wondering about any hits that I overlooked.

Brother's Johnson and Fonda Rae obviously and Odyssey "inside out" for example.

It's not about telling what can or can't overcome something for me just that the song(s) is(are) hits that I somehow "overlooked"
