"Welcome to your life. There's no turning back. "

Was this song always this....introspective?
I dunno...
Weird hearing songs from your youth that you overlooked all these years..Brushed them off as just fluff..filler...
Of course, I know that song was a HUGE hit...
But..
I guess I didn't get it??
Granted..I was only like...10 years old...but I know it got burn for a few years at least...

Also...
I feel like Weezer owes Phonte & Zo! some residuals or something...a shout out....something...

legitimately good. I always just lumped them in with other synth-poppy 80's bands, but there was a lot there.

Weezer is a difficult topic.

I'm curious what your take is. I've heard quite a few hot takes, ultimately I have kinda just put them in a wierd place where I listen from time to time but really its just the blue album and I pretend nothing else exists (except pinkerton which has been fucking ruined by time and our changing perspectives)

BUT, I don't agree with the "everything afterwards is garbage" stuff people say. Green and Maladroit were very good, maybe bordering on great. Make Believe and Red aren't even COMPLETELY worthless (you could probably make a decent 8-10 track album with the best songs from those two) and EWBAITE and White are also between good and really good. And I always disagreed with the people who wrote them off as a novelty/nostalgia/whatever act because it's dismissive and a lazy hot take.

Except now that's literally what they're doing with this Beach Boys/cover albums shit. which, whatever, get your money. But this is where I've gotta get off, it was a nice ride and I'll never forget the classics.

I don't think Leslie Jones' character below is totally wrong, but she's at least right in spirit. Matt Damon says things that should get people committed. I related waaay too hard to this.

I've definitely done the "oh I'm sorry, you're dumb" thing when I was in college, too.

Anything from the last decade is fairly hit or miss and I haven't enjoyed any of these covers ("Africa" was fine, I guess,) but there's some good stuff in there. Nothing that can stand with Blue or Pinkerton album-wise. They've fully transitioned to novelty act status at this point.

still have the cassette (my first). They were heavy into psychoanalysis (The big chair from Songs from the Big chair) and presumably had issues they worked out through the music.

BECAUSE I was waiting for the hype to die down to play any songs from this album

but, fuck it, you said it was Weezer at the end of your post so thats on me for not listening.

They did a good job from the 10 seconds I heard before saying "no no no no no!" and closing the tab

You can’t even link to a classic rock song correctly

by hearing this Wheezer version and thinking to myself how dope the song actually is in general...and how they basically co-opted it and are getting new fans off it despite their having fell off long ago...
(BTW,FTR, i'm #team 90's & early aughts Weezer)

Dude's family I knew from the Japanese American community in WLA rented it out to them

For me, the 'why do they gotta front' was really sarcastic and clowning the macho culture at parties that was very prevalent. I kind of took offense personally lol

But then again I though Foo Fighters was clowning dudes that called everyone 'foo', so

We used to hate Head Over Heals..

Girls would go crazy at the little dances we had but at the same time... shit was kinda hot.

Few years later I really appreciated this album.
