"Y'all seen/heard about this big ass Basquiat book???!"

This joint is MASSIVE!
Just saw it in person and my jaw dropped.
Bigger than your grandma's old family bible.
Bigger than your algebra 3 school book.
Bigger than your bound collection of rare stamps.
Bigger than your wedding guest signature book.

Where I saw it in person they were asking $200 cover price.
Amazon got it listed for $103..
Get on it:

which was how he looked and the artists he hung around with. On one hand, you can see his work alongside other artists who broke into the art world as graffiti artists, like Harring. On another, you can see his work alongside other contemporary artists/painters, like Schnabel and the neo-expressionists.

Then there is how his work was marked by his own distinctive style, while also being in conversation with European artists from the 60s and 70s, like Jean Debuffet. On this level, his art makes a lot of sense as something that took existing aesthetic elements/movements and added something new, and then harmonized itself, with what came before it. IMO, what he did/introduced to art was on par with what Picasso did when he took influences from African sculpture and pushed it towards Cubism.

He just found that sweet spot between high and low brow art, without trying to pander to either. It's a damn shame we never got to see where he would have kept pushing his work towards.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

I would assume most people on a site like OKP would want a Basquiat book if they had the money to not be broke after buying it.
