"YouTube TV is the truth. Ruth. *winter cord cutting*"

I done switched up my whole digital lifestyle in the past 5 days.

-Ditched Verizon Wireless, switched to Google Fi.
-Ditched FiOS Triple Play for an internet only package that's $82/month
-Trying out FireTV Recast & YouTubeTV & PS Vue now....

YouTube TV is the beesknees! But dammit they don't have OWN... I need that Greenleaf... So i'm gonna check PSVue next since they have OWN.
The FireTV Recast is dope, but damn it's OTA only, and i'm not sure it's worth keeping just to record a few network shows.
The ONLY real reason I even need YTTV or PSVue is for the Disney channels. Hopefully when Disney comes out with their streaming service it'll be competitively priced...

Talk to me.

just fine, I think even faster than VZW was.
The first bill is gonna be the litmus test though..
If I can stay on wifi as much as possible, and keep these gigabytes low, then i'm gonna be way way ahead.
I like the app on the phone too, it lets you see how much data each individual on your account is using.

We used Fi for a year or two and it was great until my wife started getting data hungry. I switched us to Total Wireless, which uses Verizon towers. If you have 2 paid for phones that can get on Verizon towers, we have the 15GB shared data plan for $63/month after tax. Haven't gone over the 15GB yet in nearly 2 years. The only issue is you have to buy and replace your old phones when you want to upgrade. But I don't mind if it means saving $80/month from where we were before Fi.

that’s for 2 phones and 12GB’s + rollover for unused data

That’s Verizon.

Looks like it’s close but after taxes and fees I can’t see the benefit of moving.

Yeah, wifey gotta be reachable...

>Can’t see us changing and I’m grandfathered into some old

That was the last straw for me....I was grandfathered into the 10GB shared plan AND getting $25/month/device discount..AND a government discount. All in we were only $114/month...BUT we typically only use about 4GB between us on average...and maybe 8GB if I just get frivolous with my youtube activity..but that was rare.
I coulda drop down in plan, but the new plans don't offer the Federal Employee discount AND they would have ended up costing MORE lol...

I was like...i'm DONE jumping through your hoops VZW. I don't even have VZW provisioned phones anymore...WHY am I still with you???

It’s weird when they ask to change knowing it will cost me more money.

We tend to use most of our data every month so I’m ok now that we paid off these phones. Next phones we buy will be outright just in case we want to move to a cheaper carrier.

I love it. The DVR service is my favorite part. I can't stay up to watch inside the NBA and adult swim. But I catch up the next day.

And I use it on both the PS3 and PS4. And I still have access to the channels on their apps, and my DVR is device and location agnostic.

I don't think I'm going back to cable again.

You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles

Sprint plan. We get Amazon Prime because of that yearly fee we pay. And we have a NetFlix account.

Once I figure out how to get local tv so I can watch local news from time-to-time, Comcast is getting cut outta my life for the most part. We'll still need them for the Internet connectivity. By 1/1/19, it's a wrap either way.

I'm figuring I could save damned near $200 p/month to downgrade my service to just the Internet.

It's an upfront cost...but it's basically a TiVO without the monthly fee for the channel guide. They're on sale this week for a decent price. I copped the 1TB joint from Best Buy for $229...but I think i'll likely return it because the streaming services seem like they're going to be a better fit for us and they include local channels so the Recast joint is gonna be redundant for us.

$16/month will get you most of those channels you don't get on YouTube TV (including OWN) with very little overlap. We got YouTube TV + Philo. Splitting the cost of YouTube TV with a friend since we can have 6 accounts with 3 streams each linked to the account.

Initially I thought it was gonna be a tough sell coming from DirecTV Now since they had all the channels we wanted, but we love those 2 services way better than the trash DVR DirecTV Now has. The only channels we really miss are TV One and weather channel.

Edit: forgot to add the wife and I are using Apple TVs primarily with a Roku on another TV we rarely use.

Lack of channel availability.

Right now you STILL can't skip commercials on cloud DVR'd stuff on some channels, but they did remove the On-Demand verison requirement.

So it's going to have more commercials than I want.

Article on when you cna't skip commercials: https://www.techhive.com/article/3310937/streaming-services/youtube-tv-lifts-dvr-ad-skipping-restrictions.html

TV antenna, a paid for tico and some "downloading" is better for me - a non-sports viewer.

Edit:hulu live with the no commerical add on for $3.99 might be interesting.

Greenleaf..so we could really just buy the season from PrimeTV and it would be the same as if we DVR'd it since we don't usually watch it until the weekend after it airs anyway. I think the full season was like $19. Seems dumb to buy a TV show...but the price is cheaper than paying an additional $5/month for PSVue just to have that one channel.

THAT'S gonna be a pain for me indeed...so I'm thinking that might be the ONLY reason to keep the FireTV Recast box. If Amazon fleshes this thing out more, it could easily be a Tivo killer. If Amazon offered a streaming service to go along with it it'd be a wrap right there.

Hulu still leaves me worried...didn't they loose a major network or something recently?

when I discovered the freedom and joy of skipping commercials on my DirecTV/Tivo box. Plus I had a hacked DirecTV card back then, so I was getting ALL the channels ALL the time ALL for free lol..

Since then, i've always had a DVR with whatever service I was with.

We usually get into a few sitcoms a year. We'll DVR the series and keep up with it as best we can with the comfort of knowing that it's being recorded and we can watch on our own schedule. I was a year behind on Last Man on Earth lol...

Right now my list is:
Blackish
This Is Us
American Housewife
Manifest
Greenleaf
and i'm probably forgetting something....
I keep Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Vampirina on deck for the kids...
Usually HBO will have a series that I get into every couple of years...waiting for the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm now...so I won't bother with HBO until then...

Sony brand TV, and they used the TV's regular Sony remote.
There apparently was a convoluted process to install the app at set-up, but from all I saw, it worked far more simply and seamlessly than my cable remotes at home.

Anyway, this post is great, I'm moving next month and am likely going to try cutting the cord...google fi too.

With the DVR function and the guide menu it's the service that feels the most like still having cable IMO. Between PSVue, YouTube Red, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, my family is set. I have all of my live sports and Netflix shows, my wife has her Bravo, OWN, HGTV, and Shonda Rhimes shows, and our kids have all the Disney networks and PBS.

That's the trade off with You Tube TV.
I can't imagine they go through 2019 without presenting
a new plan for 1080p or higher.

Other than that, I like the versatility of it.
I watch on my laptop on the go.
My LG set has the app built in.
All my Bulls games get recorded.
No contract (although with how crazy the NBA off season is, I might keep it).

My only complaint is the resolution.

theres plenty of channels streaming at 1080p (and 60fps too). but some max out at 720p).

also i think some device limitations will keep your stream below 1080p. i see people mention roku a lot with this issue.

In response to Reply # 0

Went with them because they had all the cable channels we needed (including OWN, which my MIL watches when she comes to visit), and all them Disney, Nick, and Discovery channels too.

We had a couple hiccups at the beginning, but it's been mostly solid.

Only thing - the DVR is just 20 hrs. Granted we don't need to use it nearly as much now since we have all the network and cable apps installed, along with Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, so we can usually catch up with what we need between all those.

We had to move up to the Unlimited data plan from Xfinity though, because in our first month of testing we blew completely by the 1TB data limit with their regular plans.

Bumped our speed down to offset that a little, but altogether we're paying about 160/month for DTVNow and Xfinity internet, about $60 cheaper than what we were paying for Xfinity Cable+Internet.

We put streaming devices in almost every room in the house - Apple TV in the living and media rooms, Roku in the playroom and guest room, and FireTV in our bedroom.

When you factor in the cost of all those devices (about $400) we'll start to see savings starting next month, and don't have to pay that monthly rental fee to Xfinity for internet or cable devices (I bought my own router and modem several years ago, so Comcast don't get no dough from me for that either).

In response to Reply # 57

Xfinity was doing all types of wild shit (like throttling Netflix and torrent traffic) but eventually settled on data caps.

Needless to say I'm not happy I'm forced to switch over to them when I move to my new place

it has some issues, but it was the best option for us. It has the largest selection of channels of all the streaming services. I feel like I get the most bang for my buck. It's the closest to replicating the cable experience for my wife and I.

Seriously, this is a great site. I essentially did the same thing manually. I found a website that listed all the channels for the top streaming sites and searched for the my "must have" networks. Using this website, I ended up landing on DirectTV Now also.

It just took me 2 minutes to confirm that YouTube TV was indeed the right option for me.

I've had it for almost a year and love it. If anything I have the same issues I had with cable, there are so many channels I don't watch. One of my favorite things about YTV though if you can customize your channel guide so you can order the channels you watch the most at the top, or group everything together by category (sports, news, etc) and even hide/remove channels you know you are never going to watch.

In response to Reply # 74

It’s my third trial. I’ve used different emails and payments to do them. I like the customizable menu as well. It has everything i watch. All channels i need. I’ve tried Hulu live DirectvNow, PSVUE and Sling. YTT Hulu and PSVUE are reaaaaally good.
