"New Albums - December 2018"

Second go round. Last month didn't have a lot of participation but I know some of you appreciate this so we will keep it going. I definitely appreciate people posting albums I don't know about.

I will reply with albums released each week. Please add any that are missing or if any come out during the week.

its not great. its the same quality of the albums hes done the past 20 years. there are some good songs. he has good intentions with his raps but he does just sound dated.

i would like to get an ep with cube, del and boots riley. im sure boots would get a kick getting to work with cube.

songs that i liked:
arrest the president (the beat goes hard, a remix with del and boots would be perfect)
streets shed tears
aint got no haters (starts of meh but when the beat hits it clicks, favorite song)
that new funkadelic
still in the kitchen
everythangs corrupt

also, really? everythang?

he sounded rejuvenated, at least more so than his past several albums (i am the west, etc). I also like that he went topical again, politics, chemical abuse, pills, etc

Prolly could have shaved a couple songs off, but I'm not mad at this one at all.

i dont really know who is who and what each of them do. are they all regarded equally in the success/quality of their music? is there one you would expect to have more success as a solo artist?

I can't really tell the difference between Offset and Takeoff. But Takeoff has long been regarded as the Michelle Williams of their Destiny's Child

bad thing to be known as. you know its not good when folks insult someone by comparing them to you.

i guess offset mostly has name recognition due to cardi? at least for me i guess.

dudes picked pretty cool sounding names to be honest.

just checked my ratings and i definitely rated the quavo album higher than takeoffs. cant say i can remember any of the songs on his album though. i might give it another listen.

mediocre. it actually started off pretty good. there are some good songs on it but overall its skippable.

i think meth sounds good, his voice is so distinct and its cool to hear him rap but the beat selections and hooks are meh mostly.

also, putting episode 1, 2 etc before each track....really?? i dont know if its google music only but i did not like that lol

songs worth listening to:
Eastside (snoop sounds good)
Grand Prix
Drunk Tunes
Wild Cats

wholeheartedly disappointed by, I became disenchanted by anything dude could potentially drop. Maybe I went into with a prejudiced ear.

its weird because dude is a legend but he has not had a great solo career, quality wise.

i feel like i dont check for him often enough but then when i do check out an album im left with the same disappointment.

I’d check all of those out. All technically “mixtapes”, but really those were free albums that he put out in 2010-12 that put him on the map.

His double album last year “4Eva Is a Mighty Long Time” was great IMO. 2014 album Cadillactica was also good. He’s got a lot of good music.

Are you power listening to them while at work?

Are you listening as background music in the morning?

These younger hiphop artists release albums almost quarterly at this point and it's frustrating for someone trying to grasp the full vision of a project.

one or two of them and rock with them longer. Seems like I have to be intentional about living with an album longer than we are reasonably expected to do so these days.

he's technically rapping better (better pocket, faster, more flows) but he sounds like he's reading the raps off a phone. also less 21 savage is more. when 21 raps more, either using more syllables per bar or making more songs, his flaws become more glaring. he's a poor lyricist at best. there are a lot of really bad lines on this thing. his album made me appreciate the skillful lyricism on the recent meek and kodak projects. the beats on i am > i was are sub-par as well and the beats on his early tapes and savage mode were a huge draw for me

the only song i really liked was "good day" and that was mostly because of the features

i need to revisit it and see if i'm missing something about it

i like savage in bursts, when he has been featured in tracks ive typically enjoyed his participation but ive never listened to a solo track of his.

kodak was garbage...at least the first few tracks when i realized it was the dude with the ebro beef and decided why bother so didnt finish it.

/savage mode/ has some outstanding tracks but even that has filler and it's a very short project. there are choice cuts on /issa/ like "whole lot" that get a lot of replay from me. i like 21 savage as an emblem of turning overwhelming negatives into a positive life and career path AND he did it independently. his musical output is shaky though. the highs are pretty high and the rest is disposable

the last half or so is really good. i was struggling through the singles and features at the top of the album but back end is classic southern reflective lyricism in the vein of scarface, 3k, don trip, etc. kodak is a fan of 90s and 2000s southern lyricists and it shows on his latest project

im not looking for him to be a dope lyricist. some songs sounded tired, nothing special about them but most of them were pretty dope for what they need to be. i dont know if any songs would make permanent rotation but the ones below will stay in my main 2018 playlist.

a lot
out for the night
1.5
all my friends
can't leave without it
ball w/o you
monster
letter 2 my momma
4L
out for the night (part 2)

no idea how much he has progressed but to me it sounds like he understands his lane and sticks to it well.

its an album thats worth a listen.

40 tracks...

Standard The-Dream output with nothing, so far, being spectacular. I’m still on Vol 1. “Back In Love” was kinda dope.

Radio Killer is consistent if nothing else.
