But I want to clarify that I was being semi-facetious above ... I'm not, personally, avoiding the show because I'm "afraid to feel real emotions" as you described below. I just don't need a weekly hourlong dose of tears in my life right now haha. I deal with enough mental ups and downs in my daily life and by following the 45* administration. So I am spending my TV viewing time on other stuff on my list for the time being.
That said, I'm adopted and had heard early on in the show's run that they tackle adoption head on and nail it; so I think someday I'll try and catch up on it. It's just not at the top of my list currently.

i'm highly emotional but after the first season, i haven't cried at all...i just appreciate the stories and the writing and can see the triggers coming...

fair enough. and yes, they nail it. all the Black characters are just so well written so i mostly watch it because of that...i just really enjoy seeing Black actors get high quality material to work with...so the emotional rollercoaster i don't mind enduring
i popped in at my moms house for dinner one day and she had an ep on. 3 episodes later im sitting there in my feels like why did i even start paying attention

I get its a drama, but damnit the few that I did watch seems like the entire point of the series is the creators going "lets see how emotional we can make our audience".

My wife and sister watch the show but she gave up recently cuz she
feels like the show would be better if it was just about
Sterling K Browns character so I never got into it

i think it was season 2 when they went back to the very early days of Beth and Randall being married
you could clearly see (by good writing and acting) that they were still solid as a couple but really on shaky ground compared to where they are "now" ("now" is kind of a floating concept on that show)
they evolved and you can tell they worked like hell to get to where they are as people and a couple

a lot of people don't like Kevin but he's one of my favorite characters because IMO he's grown the most. he was a little turd growing up but dude is legit trying to be a better person, plus I can't hate on a dude with that type of relationship with his nieces. one of the best scenes was when he was explaining his painting to them about the meaning of life

and I always have liked adult Kevin, I can't hate on dude, especially with the type of relationship he has with his nieces. I hate that Randall told dude he was getting support in China/Korea-town. I used to have a bunch of old concert flyers and posters. Like the big multi-colored ones that you would see on light poles. Had one for the entire Wu-Tang Clan...had all the individual names and everything on it. Me and my lady (at the time...now my ex) were moving apartments and when we started unpacking I noticed that all of my posters were missing. She said she threw them out 'cause we needed a fresh start in a fresh place. I cried.
I dont wait for other shows to come on like I do this one.

I'm guilty of just enjoying the show as is even with the big teases. For now, they're going out of their way to say 'Randall and Beth' are NOT gonna make it, so get ready for it now, jabronis. It's kinda like the whole 'hey, Jack is super dead yawl..it's just a matter of how and when it happens..stay tuned. Ah yes, we have you now'. Set it up, tease it, then eventually knock it down.
And a sad ass show HAS to tease additional sadness. It is there to make you appreciate the good stuff that happens. And yes, it is there to get you ready for the sad shit when it goes down.

and he had that gun on the table, I had to walk away. I think Jack did know it was an accident but he felt that Nicky was reckless and didn't want him around his family. Also like how this season they're humanizing Jack and peeling back his layer of flaws. nobody's that perfect. this is the second episode in a row that Kate didn't piss me off.
