In practice, this is usually a few dozen youths in a handful of cities who do things like no-platform fascists and protest the right. It's a lot of younger punk rock kids who have been getting into fistfights with the neo-nazis in that scene (though that's been going on for decades.)
But there's not any kind of central antifa organization. There's no head of antifa or headquarters or any sort of organization to speak of. Like I don't think you can join antifa the way you could anything else. Saying "I am part of antifa" is more meaningless than saying "I am part of OkayPlayer."

I used to run into lots of antifa kids over my years in the punk and metal scene so to have em be made into this crazy leftwing boogymen tickle me pink...like you mentioned its used to be more of a reaction to how many neo-nazi’s swaggerjacked punk music than an organized group. It is P-U-R-E foxnews propaganda a la how BLM are terrorists. And to be honest as coddled as the alt-right seems to be by modern law enforcement, godbless them for showing up and throwing some wrenches (pun intended) into racist protest plans.

this sort of shit among all the other crazy shit thats happening is starting to make me think white people have started to understand that they are white. previously whiteness had no identity - it was considered the default and therefore a non-existent thing to have to even consider. Now that people are starting to realize there is a difference my theory is that a lot of this is a few people trying to figure out what whiteness is while also coming to terms (or outright denial) that whiteness is a position that comes with history and benefits. That is to say, having to finally think about the sins of the father and the fathers father which is why I think this is a part in them being so reactionary to the "R" word - racist and racism.

I imagine it's complex. Like, I think Black America has far reaching influence with a template of how to exist in white society, how to protest in white society but I also think it's kinda like the way Black and black exist in NYC. Its a mixture of Black, Caribbean, African where things mix up but at the same time things are separate - or perhaps people might have multi-identities kind of like the way there are born and bred New Yorkers who are corporate as fuck but also Caribbean but then also Black presenting/representing
I'll never forget the time I saw a cat at BK West Indian Parade who looked and spoke like Carlton from Fresh Prince but he wore traditional Haitian carnival wear and in the span of 30 seconds he switched from "Ki kote yo bwason yo?" to "My nigga, YO, where the drinks at?" to "Hold on fellas, I need to catch this meeting with the regional team"
but, yanno, as an aside, one of my favorite past times is learning about other black communities around the world like...
