the site people think amazon may wind up at is 10 min from my house.

being ignorant of the details for the plan exactly my gut feeling is that it will be very beneficial to workers, increase taxes for the state and increase property value.

i want see more details and find out how amazon would partner with the county and state to bring more of that business to the state and county but im not deadset against it yet

Hiring will likely have a limited direct benefit to your district (as they will probably bring in management from outside and hire labor regionally, not just in your district). However, area employers may boost salary across the board to compete for labor. Traffic will likely worsen, Amazon will avoid paying taxes locally to the extent they can, and displacement of poorer renters will escalate exponentially. Better retail will likely follow as will more residential development. It’s a mixed bag. Devil is in the details. I bet they will want MD to help fund construction, even if through some type of tax rebate.

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

the state and national party are volunteer organizations, which run on little money and little name recognition.

people like me are the people that are building the organization.

so what support have i been getting...anything I ask for. ive had events with jill stein and ian schalkman our governor candidate.

im not raising any money but if i was the party would match it.

any event i want to put on...everyones down.

they want us. and they are absolutely abt making real hope and change happen and reparations is a part of the 10 platform items the party is literally about.

so yeah.

we have no money, no name recognition, no infrastructure but we do have passion and policies that are better so...its just a matter of time

and we had an extended discussion about this.

I feel like the National GP model is flawed.

I wrote a think piece bout it a couple of years ago:

http://freeblackspace.blogspot.com/2016/12/michelle-obama-green-party-candidate.html

They should be building local with cats like Bin, but they keep shoveling money to these rich, left wing unknowns that have no way of galvanizing people around a message because they are too busy trying to get people to 'know' them. Nobody is voting cold for Jill Stein.

In Baltimore, we had a Green candidate who finished a strong second in the mayoral race by basically going door to door and spending his own money. Getting a mayor elected in a large city would do a thousand times more good than finished 4th in a presidential election.

You could run a celeb, and they are going to get enough votes off of face recognition and saying a few of the right things that it could be a minimal investment, then you could take those funds you wasted previously and build a powerhouse from the cities to the state capitals back to D.C.

one political party makes a political platform of achieveing reparations in our lifetime....it aint the democrats.

one political party wants to dismantle the for profit prison system...it aint the democrats.

one political party wants to hold individual police officers legally, criminally and financially responsible for killing suspects. its not the democrats.

on and on.

the question isnt what we doing to attract more of us question is why do so many of us still support a party that doesnt gaf abt us?

GP does.

finally not accurate abt josh hes probably going to win a seat and make history this year. our best chance of election are in bmore city where we have multiple nominees raising money and campaigning hard.

our lt gov candidate is rev annie chambers who has been living and working in bmore public housing for 40 yrs. we are much more in line with what most baltimoreans think and feel.

catch the wave

....don't give a damn about us. Some of our folks are waking up from the stupor but we've a ways to go. I know that you've always been against the grain on here anyway, so it's not surprising that you're saying what you're saying. What we need now is for those of us, who are seeing the Democrats for what and who they are, to not go to the Republicans. I've seen some Black folks who have done that and they've repeated the rhetoric of "leaving the Democratic plantation." Trading one plantation for the other plantation is not the move. We need to have our own thing or at least start with these third parties that don't have the reputation of screwing us over.

gone are the days where we can 'shame' folks into making moves (in my opinion)...so talkin down on folks or goin with the 'well what do you got to lose?' isn't gonna work...

so how do we go about opening the eyes?

the next generation is over the bullshit. in another 20 years all this stuff will be very normalized and there will be some fire breathing 20-30 year olds who HAVE state parties and local parties and actual state caucuses AND be talking abt...this kinda thing.

just have to keep it going til then and hand them the organization when they come up

which is why the party in charge on a state level wont allow it.

we are in favor of it. it gives people more choices...more options and allows them to really vote for who they want.

the inner dc suburbs like where my district are...are packed. so packed the powers that be have stopped new home construction....because there arent enough schools to accomodate the children those new residents will bring.

in maryland...1 of the richest states in the country...this is absurd. then when you add on the promises made by the current state governor and legislators re casinos and public education...that were not upheld...we have room to move in that space.

2. jobs. we want them. come to moco amazon....but we want good jobs. not just low income servuce oriented jobs. also...a living wage. also...universal basic income.

3. transportation/traffic. more HOV buses and lanes. more and stable funding for metro. no expansion of 270.

im not worried abt winning...personally.

we do need 1% of the vote for our governor candidate tho to survive as a party. thats my overarching concern right now.

after the election...ill continue organizing

in time...reparations.

running for office is awesome and terrible and energizing and exhausting and it will force you to dig deep in ways you may not have ever thought before, and by the end of it, it will be one of the most impactful and transformative decisions you've ever made. good luck brother! it's a hell of a ride.

Questions:

What measures are you taking to fight voter suppression in your district? This is a relevant issue because Republicans made an effort to suppress the black vote instead of courting it the normal way.

What policy would you introduce to support under represented populations in the hemp business if it became legal?

Recently Maryland is facing a decline prison population. What's a surface level gameplan for assisting former prisoners to find employment in hopes of never returning to the system? Basically what measures would you take to assist them in acclimating themselves to their community proper?

Let's just say I'm more than a tad skeptical of the legitimacy of the green party but if it will help the community then more power to you.

republicans arent the only party that suppresses your vote. thats a core fundamental reason this party exists precisely because the issues that rhe real democratic base wants...are not represented by the elected democrats.

the big 2 collude and pass all the laws to ensure you...regular person DONT get a say. they actually dont want you psrticipating in govt. they want you to vote...for them...and then stfu and go away til the next election.

>
>What policy would you introduce to support under represented

if it becomes legal?
we want decriminalization of all drugs. legalization of marijuana for recreational adult use immd. an end to for profit prisons and property or cash seizures by LEO from drug suspects. among a litany of otjer measures.

besides reparations? besides legalizing weed? beaides restoring their voting rights? besides ensuring their children have good public schools to attend even if they are poor? besides supporting amazon being here? besides increasing funding for phblic transport so they can get where they need to go? on and on

In response to Reply # 0

The Green Party did the hard work of making that idea a serious potential thing...then the democrats took it...watered it down. Hogan just took hillarys idea and ran with it but it began with us.

That is why we need a real progressive party in this country. a party that actually speaks and acts on behalf of the people and applies pressure on these life long politicians to actually do the peoples work not the lobbyists

only ONE party takes NO corporate donations. this is a real peoples party. individual donations only.

through the dem party like progressives do. i honestly dont get their current approach (assuming they actually wanna win and get policy enacted).

theres plenty of common ground on the environment, social issues, etc. in fact...i cant tell the difference between a prototypical progressive dem like bernie and a green party candidate (maybe someone can clue me in).

that seems like a more logical/productive strategy than running as a separate party that never gets above 5% in any election.

Anyone who is right wing radical on some “dismantle the Fed and return the dollar to the gold standard” shit ain’t going anywhere in the GOP (no serious committee leadership posts, etc). Those guys are outliers. And no radical left wing political figure is gonna get far with the Dems. That’s why we have third parties. Major corporate parties are only going to go so far to the radical fringes.

Yeah but the Greens go further than most Dems are currently willing to go. They’re getting there tho. But even the progressive Dems are fighting an uphill battle. And a lot of their ideas, I would argue, are coming from the independent leftists.
