"talking cars on a tuesday - how do you listen to music in the car"

I had to move on from my 06 pathfinder to a 2016 grand cherokee. its way lighter and drives better. the jeep has all new shit in the dash. almost too many options.

do you stream music from your phone to the car radio? I've done it a couple of times and would rather not. the audio is very low and I just don't wanna work my data like that.

I can still play the ipod in the car. the audio sounds way better, but I can't put any new songs on it.

Took me way to long to figure out how to get it set up, but once I did it was easy to play songs from my phone without taking it out of my pocket.

I ***HATE*** that touch screen dash bullshit tho. First time I've ever had a car with this. I could do almost everything with my old car without looking because everything was tactile.

I still rarely drive the car tho.

I put one in my last ride. it was great for getting to the ipod songs.

I'll prolly have to get used to the bluetooth for music, but it kinda sucks right now. if I could add more songs to the ipod, I'd be good to go, but itunes doesn't support it anymore.

its great for calls tho.

...I complained about it to my girl. like "there's no knob to grab and turn." She pointed out the volume controls on the steering wheel that I hadn't noticed at all.

I think I hit my capacity for new tech about 5 years ago, lol.

But on my bluetooth, you can actually turn the volume up on the phone and it increases the output volume over bluetooth. Weird...but it works on all the Galaxy phones i've ever had. Also...if you have Aux input and a Samsung phone, then get a Bluetooth receiver dongle that is AptX certified... your bluetooth will sound MUCH better via the AptX processing.
Also...save for offline listening works on most streaming apps. Try that to save your data.

In response to Reply # 0

I remember about 14 years ago i got a new radio put into my Civic and it had an ipod cable. It changed my world. Now I always keep my classic loaded and plugged into the car. Put it on shuffle and just drive. Its fantasic and much better sound quality than streaming. Plus where I live there are lots of mobile dead spots. But i cant live with out it.

once my cable went out on my and I drove around for a few days with the radio and even my son was like dad why does it sound so bad? But new cars come with a USB and Aux but no CD now. So Im good. Once this classic finally goes out like most normal HD do. Im gonna open it up and put in a flash HD and run the same set up. Its perfect.

wouldn't have it any other way, lol. I usually just throw on a podcast before I pull out of the driveway...but, if I decide to play music, I just pick an album on Spotify then control the tracks/volume from the steering wheel. I love it.

In one whip (the one I drive most), usb plug into the ipod touch or classic (mostly touch nowadays...classic is like a storage unit when i want to hear everything, touch keeps more modern playlist). I either listen to my library or my offline library on Tidal.

In the other whip (the one my wife drives most) bluetooth everything (except the ipod classic)!!! Her car is newer than mine so when I hop in, it auto connects to whichever device I have it set on. I can do what I do in my car (without the wires) or I could use my phone and stream. What's awesome there is, I can also play youtube videos/music through the speakers. I have unlimited data so I don't sweat my plan or anything. Not like I use it that much either.

When I get a new car though...

There used to be a special cable for early iPhone models when I first got the car but it went obsolete after my first phone upgrade. I liked it better because I could control everything from the steering wheel. Now, I have to pick up my phone and pick what I want, manually.

i do have to turn the volume up more compared to radio or satellite but it sounds good. i used to play mostly local music and the quality was as good as CD to my ears (maybe i have bad ears).

i switched to streaming recently because i switched to an always kind of slow unlimited plan and the quality has been perfectly fine (google play on high).

when i uber some folks have used the aux cord, i have to turn it up even higher but it really bumps. i might try it but the bluetooth has worked well for me.

i was having trouble with the music starting and stopping when it first connects but it looks like its a power amp app issue as it doesnt happen with google play.

i just wish my car wouldnt default to xm when i turn it on. it takes a few seconds for it to connect to bluetooth and in the meanwhile i have to listen to the annoying ads on the xm preview channel.

it always starts over on track one, if i hit shuffle i think it shuffles to the same order every time.

in my last car i put an aftermarket radio with touchscreen. i would switch between a usb drive, an sd card and bluetooth. it would remember the spot on any of them and keep it in shuffle or not depending how i had it. it just didnt display the track info over bluetooth.

Main Source (c) is my Ipod CLassic that stays in the USB port of the Fusion. Searching for songs sucks with Sync2 as it's slow as balls, but it's usually on shuffle, so it's not too bad. Bluetooth works for streaming music from my Google Play Music app, Youtube, Netflix, Pandora, etc. Sirrius/XM radiofor either comedy, hip hop, Motown, or the Beatles (don't judge me). Since the iPod is probably on borrowed time (I need to change the battery and I do worry about the HDD dying on me) I copped a 128GB SD card and popped that in the slot. Don't like it as much as searching for music is still slow, and albums have that annoying pause in between tracks (which is one reason I'm not giving up my iPod as long as I can). And on the occasion I haven't ripped a CD to my server and then to another device I'll pop one in the CD player (I think Choose Your Weapon may still be in there now...)

both situations, I play music local to the device through the head unit. I don't stream music, but I will stream podcasts.

since CarPlay got Google Maps and Waze, I've been using the iPhone WAY more since I don't have to also use an iPod.

Android Auto is absolute assjuice for playing music -- because they want you to Google Assistant everything. it's been this way for 3 years.

If I'm not in my own car, I use a Scosche Bluetooth FM Transmitter and just "Air AUX jack" phone audio.
