First Hillary is too conservative - then you want a fucking lifelong Republican MILITARY Official to run as a Democrat?

Get this straight - A DEMOCRATIC POLITICIAN SHOULD BE THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE.

Bernie's not a Dem. Powell is not a Dem. Bloomberg is not a Dem.

Have the Republican's really driven you this fucking insane??

Slap yourself. Or just Sconsult the clergy and your loved ones and take their advice - which will be - to STFU , calm yourself, and think on it more.

>Bernie's not a Dem.

im not sure why people keep saying this. bernie may be 'independent' but he is substantively democratic. he caucuses with dems and aligns with their votes in the high 90s percentage-wise. he would count toward a dem majority in the senate and thus hand over control of the chamber and all committees to dems. he works to get dems elected. and so on.

i have my issues with bernie (and his supporters). him not officially having a d by his name is not one of them.

I stand by this simple statement of fact.

>percentage-wise. he would count toward a dem majority in the

>on.

Great, then he can be part of the Dem coalition - but not the nominee for a party he is not part of.

Last time he ran he changed his party to Democratic as late as possible, and then switched back the very second he could.

Fuck him. If he wants to use the party apparatus then he needs to be a part of the party. Don't fall for his bullshit.

And, again, he's welcome to caucus with Dems - and campaign for Dems - but he is simply not a Dem.

>i have my issues with bernie (and his supporters). him not
>officially having a d by his name is not one of them.

Nope, if the schmuck won't join the party then he can't be the nominee.

And if he was such a great leader he'd join the party and change it - not simply opt out and talk shit.

if bernie 'joined the party'...what would specifically change in any meaningful way? nothing.

he has a dem leadership position within the senate. he is a reliable dem vote in the senate (more than some dems). he has massive support in his home state largely driven by dems voters. bernie is a dem in every way but label.

we know russian trolls and right wing ops seek/sought to divide up the dem coalition by turning bernie supporters againts 'the establishment' and vice versa. so why would we willingly do what they wants us to do?

the same way i get on bernie supporters for not supporting another brand of dem...i get on folks who do the same in the opposite direction. 'divided we fall'.

its self destructive in a time where we absolutely need to be strategic.

i was an early bernie supporter. im not his biggest fan now. but if he is the most popular (vote-wise) dem in the primary then we need to unite behind him as the nominee. none of this dumb 'he aint really a dem' shit.

>if bernie 'joined the party'...what would specifically change
>in any meaningful way? nothing.

Then he could take a leadership position inside the apparatus - and not be seen as an outsider - a position he relishes. That's what he gets - A LEADERSHIP POSITION IN THE PARTY.

>he has a dem leadership position within the senate. he is a
>reliable dem vote in the senate (more than some dems). he has
>massive support in his home state largely driven by dems
>voters. bernie is a dem in every way but label.

So, have him change the label. He switched to an official Democrat party member when he HAD to (to use the money and power that comes with it) - well motherfucker to have me trust you you have to change.

>i was an early bernie supporter. im not his biggest fan now.
>but if he is the most popular (vote-wise) dem in the primary
>then we need to unite behind him as the nominee. none of this
>dumb 'he aint really a dem' shit.

Again - unless he files a piece of fucking paperwork THEN HE IS NOT A DEMOCRAT. SIGN THE FUCKING PAPER. He will sign it the SECOND it is to his advantage.

He's a third party bullshit "Democratic socialist" candidate.

He can squash all of this by joining the fucking party - and somehow I'm the MORON??

He's not getting my vote for a Democratic candidate until he becomes a fucking Democrat.

In response to Reply # 38

I mean, assuming there ARE folks who currently hold their nose to vote Trump Republican due to 1 or 2 issues that makes them NEVER consider a Dem (Abortion, Guns, Soshalizm, etc)...

If that is really true (I personally maintain that you can't be a "moderate" and be okay with something like child separation or cosigning Nazis, so I just don't think they exist like that)...

but assuming for a second that moderates exist

Then theoretically a 3rd party could make some noise right now. If Repugs like Powell, Kasich, Haley, Huntsman, Romney, etc used their clout and connections to start a new party that is basically what the GOP claimed to be years ago...and nabbed some folks like Bloomberg, Manchin, etc?

Basically, the GOP has moved so far to the right it seems like a 3rd party could actually gain some ground in the middle. They certainly haven't left any room on the right.

And lets be honest, most of those people want to be President or something close. So the fact that this idea is outlandish is kind of crazy, because it shows that party....in the face of outright racism/sexism/fascism even...is not only more important than country and alleged morals (lol), but also personal ambition.

Crazy

But yeah, fuck Bloomberg.

I was here promoting Hillary but I think it's kind of clear anyone could have performed better than Hillary (who beat all other dem politicians for the job) including Bernie (and I am definitely not here promoting Hillary.

Man the take home lesson I keep repeating get from 2016 election, Dem's grilling of Kavanaugh, Chuck Shumer is we need less career Democrats and more fresh blood representing us government. Granted an 81 year old Powell isn't fresh blood, but to me his big bonus would be that he isn't a career politician.

>WTF is wrong with YOU??
>
>First Hillary is too conservative - then you want a fucking
>lifelong Republican MILITARY Official to run as a Democrat?

two things. Who said she was too conservative? This your position or are you attributing it to me?

Secondly, only on OKP and far right circles would a career in the military be a detriment to a candidates political fortunes.

Like half of the new dems running for office now are former military people.

Like his positions on issues aren't very distinguishable from HRC.

http://www.ontheissues.org/Colin_Powell.htm

But yeah like someone else stated, moderate might not be the way to go.

I just start thinking moderate when folks start getting all excited over Elizabeth Warren or Kamala Harris. Both admirable women, both would be slaughtered in a general election.

Calm down. Register to vote. Vote Democratic.

And hope the electoral college, gerrymandering , and the apportionment of Senate representation can be overcome.

Hillary got 3 million more votes than Trump.

Senators who voted to confirm Justice Kavanaugh represent 143 million people .

Senators who voted no to Justice Kavanaugh represent 181 million people, according to GovTrack.
--

Make no mistake, the slave owning states and the small states corrupted the way the government was set-up and for 40 years now the Republicans have focused on ways to exploit that system. Do not reward them. Vote them out.

Or if Powell doesn't run do you want us to nominate Mitt Romney? Paul Ryan? Niki Haley?

I'm hoping for a primary of fresh faces so to speak, but I am certainly hoping for no Colin Powell, no Bloomberg, no ex-CEOs, no Zuck, or anything like that.

Specific to Powell, I don't think running to the center or trying to become the military party is the way to go.

Those mythical moderate swing voters don't sway things like the Dems like to think, otherwise '16 would have been different...and BART wouldn't be on the Supreme Court.

I could say "I think the Dem nominee should be someone who actually supports progressive policies or at least policies that the majority of Democrats supports" and you could say "Not me." Congrats, nobody proved you wrong!

do you think we will have a real third candidate in 2020? i think for sure anyone that still wears the GOP label will align themselves with trump.

im hoping democrats go hard with the progressive agenda and align together.

there seems to be an opening for the conservatives that are appalled by trump but are not progressive. would a third party emerge between the trump GOP and democrats?

i feel like the energy is there but in the end they will cave again and support trump.

another question, what is the difference between the democratic party you support and bernie sanders? what policy items do you support that bernie doesnt or are you against that bernie supports?
