"New Albums - 10/05/2018"

Where do you find out what new albums are being released each week? I'm having a hard time finding a single source to do so.

I thought it might be good to have a weekly post that lists albums that were released. Not all albums warrant separate posts but some people might still want to discuss them.

Which albums are you looking to check out that were released today/this week?

Im listening to the TI album right now, will check out atmosphere later, ghostface at some point, no concrete plans to listen to any others in the list below.

I found this list for today, it is missing TIs Dime Trap though. Im guessing its missing others too. Please post any that aren't in the list.

i had tried metacritic earlier and the list seemed to be really lacking. i think it was one that showed the scores for the albums so i guess if albums didnt have scores yet they werent listed.

this list looks pretty complete. good looking out.

now just need one that has the obscure hiphop albums.

i had no idea he had a new album coming out. its been a while since ive heard new music from him. never a huge fan but i do respect his music. definitely has some songs in his catalogue i still rock with.

this album is mostly a snooze until "At least I know" Andersoon Paak. does it again! the next couple of songs are pretty good. as a whole its a skippable album but it does have some songs that worth checking out.

Big Ol Drip
At Least I Know
What Can I Say
Jefe (maybe second best song on the album)
Light Day
You (teyana is the best part of this song)

These days, I just scroll thru the Spotify list of New Releases (singles & albums) every Friday. Sometimes, I'll just listen thru the new music playlist they put together for me and see what I might like. It's obviously lacking a lot because I didn't know about GhostFace or Atmosphere.

it seems most places curate their lists and it would be great to go to one source that listed all the releases and let you filter as you desire.

im mostly going to be checking for hiphop but im interested to see what else is out. then theres the independent releases which might not be worth checking but theres sure to be a gem here and there.

ive mostly been ignoring new releases (besides bands i really like) until this past year but now that i have the time might as well check them out.

*Echo & the Bunnymen - The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon

I know/heard these guys have been putting on stellar live shows in the last few years, but I'm not sure I ever thought 'Should they release new material?"

*Ghostface Killah - The Lost Tapes (Order/Buy)

Serious question - is GFK an "oldies' act now? When I was 18 in 1988 musicians who started in 1963 were pretty much considered "Oldies acts." I'll definitely stream this one.

* Steve Perry - Traces (Order/Buy)

This is interesting just because he retired for so long. I do think I'd see Journey if they reunited and they played the state fair.

ghost definitely doesnt sound the same but the production is pretty good. i wasnt big on the last couple of projects i heard from ghost so i came into this with low expectations. definitely not his best work but worth a listen. we'll see how it holds up on repeat listens.

Stands outs:
Majestic Accolages
Saigon Velour
Done it Again
Saigon Velour (remix)

Partly because I just don't keep up with things as much anymore, but also my usual sources aren't the same. I'm not downtown as often anymore (Toronto) so I can't rely on regular checking up on my record stores to keep me up to date naturally. Hip hop is the biggest problem lately too because the downsizing of stores up here a while ago affected them the most it seems, places that used to have stuff like new TM/FE reliably, or even more obscure stuff, doesn't seem to stock it anymore, haven't even picked up the Jean Grae/Quelle Chris one yet, I know online is there but shipping can be real discouraging.

Shows how the streaming era has changed things, as I'm not really excited about any of these at all. Outside of Ghost, TI and Cursive, I can't even say I've ever really had very strong feelings towards any of these artists in my life. But they're out there, on my phone/computer, whenever I want, so why not? I just saw a small album review for an album out today from a band I've never heard of until a half hour ago, checked out a song on YouTube and now I'll probably listen to theirs as well.

this album has some great production, ant really killed it. if youre not a fan of slug then you probably wont like the album but there is an instrumental version so that might be worth checking out.

i really liked this album, its hit or miss for me with slug. i was big into atmosphere around 2002 then their newer stuff lost me. every few years there will be some songs that slug is on that i really like. ive been hesitant to listen to full albums of theirs for the past 10 years. this album might make me check out some previous albums.

the whole album is worth checking out if you dont hate atmosphere.

favorite songs after one listen:
Virgo
Earring
Trim (probably favorite)
Mijo

whole album is going on rotation though. stopwatch and randy mosh might be the only ones that dont stick.

not my vibe

i dont know why i decided to check this out. i think the name is similar to someone elses name that i had been seeing...maybe. over all too poppy and country for my tastes. the music in parts was the best part of this.

the in this body beat would be dope if it was sampled. the hook kind of kills it for me.
