"Saw a bothersome (to me) post regarding Black people and Kanye"
Tue Oct-02-18 11:48 AM by Tw3nty

The post stated that
"Black people will finally cancel Kanye if he went and got a boyfriend".

I know there is homophobia in our community but
that being the straw that breaks the camel's back as far as he goes seems like a reach.
I don't see our views being monolithic regarding homophobia.
I been searching for an example of black people standing against a celebrity who came out of the closet.
Frank Ocean seems to be the obvious example but it seemed like the community had more of a "oh that makes sense" reaction rather than "I'm not listening to his music anymore" reaction, although people did have that reaction.

Thoughts?

stop making music people like.

We knew what Little Richard Was, but we rocked with him.

Not to say there is no homophobia, but to say making the music the people love has always, for better or worst, trumped everything.

that nxgga on the verge of cancellation right NOW.

I don't know that we've ever turned our back like that.

I had a cousin who I found out later was gay (as a child I just thought he was different), although his 'lifestyle' wasnt discussed openly...there was a sort of insulation within the family. he'd be teased at times, but not by anyone outside the fam.

but maybe it's different depending on where you are.

....and we knew what that was. It was even verboeten to address it openly. Even the most homophobic dudes was putting on some Luther if it meant they were getting some draws that night.

Even with the singers mentioned (except Frank Ocean), it was always "we know what it is" vs "He's on TV with his boyfriend"

I dont care either way...I just think being "hip-hop" has a shorter leash when it comes to that.

Not for being gay

but thinking he was acting out because he was hiding who he really was...

We ain’t never turned our backs on our gay talented folk...

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

Folks running with the same old quotes from a few preachers, some church ladies and 80s rap songs and applying that to all black people. FOH.

I feel like anyone willing to excuse Kanye's support of overt white supremacy is also down for the fall and not to be trusted

I don't want to hear anyone who still listens to Kanye complain about racism at all or ever again.
