Beautiful weather here. Easy Monday happening for me. I'm sitting here at this career and resource fair in BFE, VA basically doing nothing.

And it's a four day work week, so basically it's already Tuesday.

I too hate the time change. They need to just leave it how it is right now and never change it again.

So of course I gotta reward myself with an over the top cheat meal from my favorite local breakfast spot :-)

Seafood omelette with hollandaise sauce, roasted potatoes with green onions, english muffin, a fucking full order of texas french toast because yes I'mma gatdamn glutton, and a strawberry crush cause I'm that type of person to drink a carbonated strawberry soda with breakfast and I also didn't feel like stopping to get my favorite fresh squeezed orange juice. (although I really wanted some orange juice and that would have been my preferred drink)

In all honesty as good as that meal was, I feel fucking *terrible*. Ate wayyy to much, and I got a whole order of french toast left because all I really wanted was a taste of french toast, not a freaking platter. Can I refrigerate leftover french toast? Will it be tasty after it's reheated? Not really into french toast, this spot is one of two places I've been to that make a palatable french toast.

This is the exact opposite of what I should do, but I'm about turn the air conditioning on a low setting, turn on a little star trek, and take a nap.

hasn't responded measurably to anything since the emergency craniectomy that night.

So I'm in his room at Long Term Acute Care today, turn off the classical music TV channel and pop in a set of 1963 Mississippi John Hurt recordings... and he picks up the refrain to Farther Along.

Not singing - he's got a trach, can't make any sound- but he's mouthing 'we'll understand it, all by and by.'

At the end he smiles and squeezes my hand.

John Hurt's looking down from heaven and smiling at my tears.

took his old guitar in yesterday and played some of the tunes he used to sing to us. On Frankie & Johnny he got his hand banging the side of the wheelchair, only lasts a few seconds at a time, but man... music and the human brain are amazing and mystifying

Was strange watching foosball without an adult beverage though..lol

"The Kid" turns 15 next week...still can't get over her crying at the drop of a hat though. She's got some anxiety issues that we need to have addressed.

Uber was decent this past weekend. Left the house Saturday around 9am, got home around 5pm, took an hour off to record shop, made just over $100. This was the first weekend in a while I didnt buy any music for myself. Picked the MGMT up for the kid, and the Raspberry Beret Funko Pop for myself, lol.

Me and the wife...I think we're just focsuing on being better people/parents. If we grow apart while focusing on ourselves, I guess thats just how it goes. We love each other deeply, but we really don't like each other right now.

That Quincy JOnes documentary is amazing. I finally started "The Nightmare" which has been in my queue for years...really frightening shit.

Dilemma...should I buy "Nasir" or "Magna Carta" this weekend?

may had made up for forgetting my coffee that one day.

no headache today. supposedly ive been trained on everything i need to cover. i got the over all idea of what i will need to do but havent really done any of it solo so we shall see how this goes. i will be forced to interact with some new people
which should be good. im already seeing that things could be done better. im totally expecting to be hit with things i need to be doing that have not been covered.

i was so reluctant to do uber this weekend. i was not feeling it at all. i powered through and it was decent. that one saturday has my expectations too high on what i should be getting. im thinking i might set aside 20% of uber profits to spend on something i will enjoy to keep me motivated. drunks are just annoying to me now instead of interesting lol for some reason there was a lot of ride from/to the strip clubs this weekend. it feels like im unlocking more missions as i keep going lol. "achievement unlocked, you can now accept missions to strip clubs" rating keeps going up, 26-5 stars 1-4 star

southwest has a $49 sale going on right now. im gonna look into concerts in these cities for the given dates and maybe pick one.

choices:
Austin, TX $49
Dallas (Love Field), TX $99
Denver, CO $79
Houston (Hobby), TX $99
Las Vegas, NV $79
Los Angeles, CA $49
Phoenix, AZ $49
San Antonio, TX $49

valid 11/28/18 – 12/19/18 and 1/3/19 – 2/13/19

im thinking january or february since the cheapest flights are on thursdays and mondays and im basically out of vacation days this year.

16. "i'm tired today."
In response to Reply # 13

haven't done shit at work and i'm leaving in a few minutes.

before you get all "oh there you go leaving work again", which I am, I do at least have a reason this time.

so yesterday we learned that my MIL has to have emergency surgery today. she's having the stints (i think that's what they are called) removed which were put in place for the impending implants because there's a major infection. her chemo treatments continue to be delayed due to infection. i'm really ready for some good shit to happen to my tribe. it's becoming quite a bit much. head up though, McG, we'll get through this. i'm tired of telling myself that shit too.

so anyways, i need to leave early so i can get the groceries all taken care of in time to pick my little dudes up from their respective sitters since TheWife is at the hospital with her mom today.

in other more positive news, the big little dude turns 8 tomorrow. hard to believe. i remember making a post about his second birthday and that i could hardly believe it had already been two years. well that seems like yesterday. he's an awesome dude and it's amazing to watch him grow up. he earned "Student of the Month" honors for the month of September. he makes me proud every day.

but i'm tired. i'm tired of a lot of things. it has been a pretty trying 8 months.

i wasn't in a real good place yesterday. i'm glad the funk lifted a bit. the problems and issues remain, but my attitude is more positive today.

older son's 8th birthday. hard to be upset on your kid's birthday. i love that little dude. and last night his little brother (2.5yo) asked if he could wear his Spiderman costume to his brother's birthday party today. yes you can, son. yes you can.

In response to Reply # 22

ive always been a "i like my sugar and cream with a little bit of coffee" or whatever the saying is type of dude. ive been trying to back off on sugar.

ive been only adding flavored creamer and thinking about going straight black.

visually, i grew up as E on this picture

https://pics.me.me/how-do-you-take-your-coffee-25636955.png

now im between B and C

i bought a french press last month and the first cup i made i tried black and it tasted good. out of habit ive been putting creamer since. maybe tomorrow i will go straight black.

i am tempted to add some cocoa powder though.

So here we are...

I've been waiting for this Thursday... not my Friday but I am going to a show tonight.. gonna go see IDLES.. they are pretty kickass and I've been looking forward to it a couple weeks now. It's early in the day but I feel like I'm getting more used to this going out to shows thing and am not dreading the psych up as much.. maybe it's the shows themselves are picking up in general. oh yeah right it's early.. wait for it.

lol all three Friday movies were on TV last night I didn't know it until I got home and the first one was half over... which was a drag because it's the only one I actually wanted to watch again.

"and you know this!"

ok coffee in a few minutes.

it was the first movie i saw when i did the trial. it was also the only one i saw on prime for a couple of years lol i have a vivid memory of watching it on a laptop.

got some bad news so pretty out of it today.

i might consider trying uber during the week after work. ill probably try starting earlier on friday and saturdays first.

i tried doing black coffee today, after two tiny nervous-dont-burn-me sips i was like naaaaah. maybe if i had a full sip i could correctly judge if i could get with it.

I looovveee tv, but at this point in my life I watch very little of it. As a single person I've only been using it to fill the silence in my apartment, and I couldn't justify the money I was spending to have background noise. The only thing I've been watching consistently is Star Trek, and I watch that on Netflix. So at least for now I'm going to be without the warm embrace of having a hundreds of shows and channels on demand.

my eldest grandson called to tell me he needs help with social studies. He hates the class! Apparently, he has a weirdo teacher that doesn’t present well. I had him text me screenshots of the assignment and we talked through it. I feel energized that he looks to me for guidance...

I’m an excellent note taker...

and yeah man, kids give you purpose. that's one thing i can definitely say i still have. purpose.

my brother is struggling a little bit right now and i think a part of that is right now he doesn't really have much purpose. me and my mom talked about that a bit last night. and while professionally i am not where i want to be and all the other crazy shit going on in my home/personal life, i still have purpose because those boys provide that. i have to keep going and keep pushing and keep going to work etc because i'm not just responsible for me. it feels good, though.

Man, this budgeting shit got me fucked up.

My wife... just, she is making this more difficult than it needs to be. We have to sit down and have a real ass convo about this. Didn’t want to do it on my Bday but I’m gonna have to be the bad guy.

We were in the hole and now we are climbing out but my wife is trying to stack already. Shit kept me up all night crunching numbers in my head. Couldn’t get it to stop.

She is going to act like we broke(we are) and she shoulda kept another side gig but it’s really about kicking the fuck in now and not trying to save money these first few months.

In response to Reply # 71

Puerto Rican barber almost had me making the "Sunshine" phone call home.

But when I had put a couple of pounds on, and she kept saying "You're looking good...you lost weight, right?" I had to give her the side eye...but whever she'd lean me back in the chair to give me the razor shape up...and lay them titties close to my face??

Oh my days...

Then they'd finish with the scalp massage? Shiiiiit...

I'm tryna make a weekday visit back home just to go back to that shop...smh...

very nice but aint no accidental or bonus to the cuts. last place i went to they were friendly and since it was my first time there it included the shampoo and scalp massage but still nothing close to my face or shoulders lol

im just worried about getting a good cut in a reasonable amount of time at a fair price in that order.

when i was younger it did seem the ladies would get right up on you though.

maybe im doing it wrong now lol

perfectly professional and friendly but not sure i would qualify anything as flirting. most contact was the handshake in the beginning.

im still trying to decide if i like how they cut it there. it looks good coming out but i suck at combing my own hair so im always happy when i cut it short enough that it doesnt matter if its combed. main worry is that after a few days itll look too long and i will feel like i need to go back after a week.

other spot i tried looked eh the first few days but then grew in nice.

i might go back to the spot i was going to most of the summer, it looked good coming out and grew in nice. i just didnt like that they kept losing barbers and they were very into getting appointments. hard to make appointments when you keep dropping barbers. last i was there it was nothing but dude barbers so definitely not up for any close contact lol

It's summer and hot-as-hell out, I'm working out heavy and this fine nurse is like "go take your shirt off and lay on that bench... I gotta do some shit." Shirt's off, I'm shea buttered-up and shiny and she's leaning over me rubbing my chest and abs putting these probes on. They wouldn't stick because shea butter, so she had to rub it off me in certain spots. Was surprisingly uncomfortable, lol.
