I think there are a lot of complaints about why come they couldn't hire a black person for this job...but its not exactly clear to me its a job. From what little I read, and I only read very little and can be wrong, it seems like she created the exhibit because she is a lifelong collector of hip-hop memorabilia and what not. The people that know her seem to vouch for her commitment.
I feel like I know of a similar complaint of a white professor teaching a course on hip-hop that they designed and created.
Kind of similarly I have this home girl who did this documentary on an old blues figure and I know she is going to get heat for the documentary being made by white people. I was telling her she needs a black partner just for the optics of it all.
It all reminds me of that conversation from Mo Betta Blues between Wesley and Denzel.

and it’s usually because there is a Black person trying to get in with the white folks by doing this shit.
My wife is a dance professor and found out the Gantt had a Black Women of Dance and it was curated by a white girl she knows who can’t dance and HATES music.
Maybe it’s to get those white dollars but it’s some bullshit.
