While sitting down to eat lunch.
We keep beers in the fridge in the break room
I would never crack one open at lunch at work tho unless everyone else was sipping.

I have a couple beers BEFORE I go to work, but I work at night with people who are drinking and am not allowed to drink while on the clock, so I see it as getting myself a little more ready to engage with people. Maybe it sounds odd to be coming down as others are going up, but it's worked for me for years now. Eventually the adrenaline kicks in, I guess.
I would feel really weird if I were in an office on a 9-5 and cracked a beer in the break room for some reason, I suppose general anxiety, but at the same time it would seem painfully obvious I should order a cocktail or beer while out at lunch. I suppose I find it hard not to order a drink before my meal anyway when eating out; even when I wind up at a fast food place, I can't help paying for the combo meal even though I'm going to pour water into my cup rather than soda.

would it be a “problem”
While I don’t think so I’m definitely asking as a Black man.

Wouldn't do it at the job because something would make me feel like its a set up, but on a lunch break outside go ahead and crack open one or two. Have some mint before you go back so you're good.

I would occasionally take my team to lunch and order a single beer for myself... that was me implicitly condoning them to do the same.
It was all good for awhile, everybody was mature and responsible.
Then I had a new, younger employee that was a lightweight. She had one of those 10-12% beers, got tipsy and went back and bragged to folks in the office (including HR) that she'd had a beer at lunch with me and the rest of my team.
That was the end of that. It's always the one that's least able to manage a liberty that gets it taken away.
As long as you're not coming back shitfaced and unimpaired, you're fine. I've had beer or cocktails at lunch countless times or even grabbed a martini at an early happy hour on an afternoon walk from the office and come back. Hell, the last firm I worked for had an entire bar with all SUPER top shelf booze and beer *in* the office. The only caveat was that if you drank, you couldn't go back to work.

I've been to a couple of sanctioned work functions/"celebrations" during business hours, and they were okay with people buying drinks at the bar. However, there was the understanding that if you did, you shouldn't come back into the office.
I've also had a beer a couple times at lunch when just catching lunch with co-workers and been fine.

I actually love beer with lunch, but almost never do it even though i work for myself... it does tend to reduce productivity in the afternoon (especially with the strong beers I like)
