"Is it wrong to leave a job a month after starting? "

I just started this new gig last week but I got a call from another place I interviewed with and dude told me he is going to fight for me to get this job if I’m still interested.

I told him I had reservations because he told me off record my range was too high but they loved my work. He responded that he made a mistake and the money isn’t a problem.

I would have a senior graphic designer title and prolly make 12K more than what I make now.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

In response to Reply # 0

You almost have to leave; I'm just hoping you don't burn the bridge at your current job by leaving so suddenly and without giving them a good amount of notice so they can look to replace you. Perhaps if you explain what's going on to the appropriate folks, you can get a bump in salary at your current spot.

But you certainly have to leave, especially since you have mouths to feed.

bragging and shit to their friends who came over and ate all our crabs when we went to visit them at the beach.

Soon as I brought up another opportunity she was skeptical.

Thing is, the other gig is retail, much larger company, prolly more stable and more lucrative for me AND that title really makes a difference in pay moving forward.

You won't be able to go back to that company if you leave but I doubt that bad experience will follow you because your skillset isn't THAT important to them.

Unless they're desperate for you or your skillset, they'll be at least little mad that they invested time and effort into hiring you and you bounced quickly.

Companies do keep blacklists but if the new opportunity is good enough and the market for your skillset is big enough around there, it doesn't really matter.... you may never have to deal with that company directly or indirectly again.

I was blacklisted once and they still remembered me 5 years later. Luckily, they weren't THAT big a player in what I do so it only had a very minor impact on my career.

i've been through this a couple of times, it's the nature of the working world as
long as you're working for someone else. don't think the grass is going to be
greener...usually more money means more problems in these gigs, but hey, yolo.

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable explanation

Have the same discussion with your current employer

Maybe they match or beat the other offer.

If you can't understand it without an explanation

you can't understand it with an explanation

and call you a cupcake.

But...LeBron won 2 rings in Miami and Durant won 2 in Oakland.

So...go get rings?

I work in HR and being on the receiving end of this SUCKS MAJORLY but, can't fault a person for doing what's best for themselves and their family.

As an HR person, I empathize...but people sucking leads to job security I suppose.

They get the big money and the big title to manage stuff like this. If they get mad, so what. That's what they get paid to do. You don't want the work and the responsibility, then get out the big chair.

Hiring and loss is a part of the working world. Sucks for dude, but as long as you are sure, and they are secure in that offer for you at the other place, do what's right for you.

Do you due diligence

like, seriously get in that ass - figure out what the work life balance is, who your immediate boss will be, who his bosses are, your role expectations.

do a top to bottom look because....

all that glitters is not gold.

I'm not saying this to be skeptical - I think you should jump no doubt, but I think if you do jump you just have to make sure that extra 12k and new title does not come with hella extra weight and expectation - aka oh, you will make a lot more but you gotta work in a cubicle farm with no windows

which is my life - not to get into numbers but the new job (at the time) had a bout a 58% increase in pay but they knew what time it was. I'm in a beige cubicle farm with no windows - when its busy in the winter I never see the sun. the workload can be insane but its a constant turn between leaving to go to work at 8 and getting home at 11pm every day or stretches where its relaxed.

these folks got me too. I'm senior and whenever recruiters start to talk to me they back off when I start talking salary. this company just keeps adding to the pile, they keep driving in the screws so I'm satisfied but its kinda hard to leave.

just ask hard questions. you got this!

It’s a lot of work. They say it’s nonstop but you rarely work late.

The creative director is from Pittsburgh too, grew up real close to where I live so we hit it off. He warned me about the PTO and said if he knew earlier he would’ve negotiated for a few more days and said I should try to get more than the 5 they offer the first year.

He also said if I told them he told me this he would lie which was a good look.

Definitely going to ask to see my work space

I haven’t been offered shit yet but I have a good feeling

also try to look at benefits breakdown

glassdoor is your friend

oh, and you are a designer

but, maybe ask about sharing and security

like, with where I am my life is hellish because Im the lone mac user and I exist on an outside network so sharing stuff with the development team is a special form of hell.

i could get shit caned for even sharing a drop box link with folks.

They are using Dropbox tho... their file sharing is janky as hell.

Not really concerned with benefits because my wife works for the school system and she is carrying me becaus their benefits are more than likely better than any company in Charlotte besides the big banks downtown.

I took another gig for $$$ alone thinking it would cover all ills. Another thing to consider is your age. My father in law told me to take the money while you can. When you get old it's a different story.

Taking shots in the dark/that's a bad call
Going straight for your head/ gotta saw it off

this question is moot.. I didn't mention it at the time but the racial factor let alone the money...

the only reasons to stay would be if you enjoyed the work more and or you had a friend who stuck their neck out to get you in.

I've learned that it's business, and you're in the business of taking care of you and yours. Maximize that earning potential fam, especially considering the company/companies will show NO loyalty to employees if they need to cost cut or make moves.

Make the move dog...just make sure it is 100% better opportunity than what you're leaving.
