I am heavily injured with a grade 3 ankle sprain hairline fracture. Ankle is swollen and can't eat anything. Came to a conclusion that I like writing and getting these hot takes off along with teaching preferably college age students. Doc said three to four weeks but I trying to come back in five days tops. This post ain't about me it's about you:
What was the most recent injury you suffered? How long did you have to sit out? What was a revelation you came to while injured? How are you making sure your mid to late 20's, 30's, 40's, or 50's are enjoyable?

baker's cyst tried to find the 'underlying cause' of it... whole leg is swollen from my knee to my feet
did xrays and a ultrasound(to rule out blood clots)....all clear...like 0 structural issues...all perfect
mofo basically asked me why i'm working out so hard at my age(he thought I was like 32 :-/)....told him I'm 40 in a cpl weeks? he's all like what you need big quads for...if you were a young linebacker or running back I could see it but........ and then proceeds to tell me how I only got a few 'good' years left
nigga basically did a Kevin Hart skit on me and told me to chill for 2 weeks and take some painkillers

my lower back has been stiff for like 2 weeks; it's difficult to just hop up out my seat.
Came to the realization that since I probly strained it from coughing maybe I shouldn't smoke - because the coughing is aggravating the back strain that was caused by coughing in the first place.
also I noticed my hairline puilling back...but it's about that time anyway.
8. "damn. sounds like it could be a slipped disc" In response to Reply # 4
I slipped a disc flipping a mattress like 10 years ago. shit was sore for like a month. I thought it was a sprain til I got it checked out. shit would hurt when I coughed, bent over, stood up, etc.
6. "Also, go smoke and chill, man" In response to Reply # 0
You ain't gonna be running around in 5 days unless you want a nagging injury that might bother you for the rest of your life. Chill, let that shit heal and think about what you gotta do to not end up in this situation again.

>>Ankle is swollen and can't eat anything. > >Why is an ankle sprain stopping you from eating? Because you >can't move around and grab snacks and meals?
I was too weak to hold myself up on crutches and wipe at the same time. I couldnt't put any pressure on my left ankle at all.

I learned that ingrown toenails and getting your nail removed are FARRRRRRR more painful than I had expected.
I also wasn't 100% mobile through the months of recovery, and while I am generally more sedentary than not, it really had me appreciating the ability to walk.

that's when a ligament pulls a piece of the bone off
I've sprained the ankle before but it's usually the rolling movement where the foot folds horizontally. this one the foot folded vertically i.e. toe to heel
hurt like fuck and was out for two months seeing a doctor for pt. I didn't scream like other dudes have done in the gym when they fuck up their knee or have other injuries, but that was my only solace.
In my downtime from training I found the urge to pick up the guitar again after more than 20 years off, so that was pretty cool.
Been back training for 5 months now and just got my guitar two weeks ago and I fuck around on weekend learning to play songs.

>What was the most recent injury you suffered?
First (and last) time using it. Had the safety guard and everything but it didn't occur to me that my hand was larger than the safety guard. Slicing fennel. First pass: OK Second pass: OK Third pass: F$%K! ad nauseum
>How long did you have to sit out?
Only a few days... it was a noticeable chunk of thumb but on my non-dominant hand
>What was a revelation you came to while injured?
Kitchen gaadgets suck (but I already knew that, my wife had wanted the mandolin, she just didn't want to use it)

Physically? Gave up volleyball a few years ago after my shoulder would bother me after every time I played. Trying to balance my sport with some straight fitness exercise. Stretching when I need to.
