This and ‘Nice For What’ each are definitely the broad sensations of summer 2018. Beyond my old Aunts on facebook and my little Nephews in elementary school, this summer I attended a pure White wedding in New England, and a mostly South Asian birthday party in the middle of the country—both songs were played at the events—most attendees were very familiar with the songs. Like Electric Slide familiar.

Which is saying something, considering that I just heard Smile for the first time maybe 3 weeks ago.
Interesting to note both these songs are built of chord changes of classic R&B songs (Boo'd Up is basically the chords to "There You Go", written by Babyface, sung by Johnny Gill).
