"Hollywood Desus “After Hours”"

EXCLUSIVE: Desus Nice and The Kid Mero are on the move. I hear the duo will be leaving Viceland where they have hosted their own daily late-night talk show, Desus & Mero, for two seasons. It hasn’t been revealed where they are headed but I hear they are in talks for a deal at Showtime, possibly for a weekly show.

https://deadline.com/2018/06/desus-mero-stars-viceland-show-end-eye-deal-showtime-1202410911/

I hear Desus and Mero started telling the staff about their pending departure from Viceland yesterday. The show’s final episode is expected to air June 28.

I hear Viceland tried to keep Desus and Mero onboard with a new deal but I hear the duo got an opportunity they felt they could not pass on. Reps for Viceland and Showtime declined comment.

With its own style, Desus & Mero has been able to cut through the late-night clutter and stand out, quickly emerging as one of Viceland’s signature shows. Shot daily from the VICE Media Headquarters in Brooklyn, Desus and Mero features the Bronx-bred pals who sound off on the issues of the day, covering news, pop culture, and day-to-day life.

Since its Oct. 17, 2016 debut, Desus & Mero, which airs Monday-Thursday at 11 PM, has featured a slew of guests, including Rachel Maddow, Cardi B, Rashida Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Pete Holmes, Jesse Williams, Anthony Anderson, Jerrod Carmichael, Aubrey Plaza, Whoopi Goldberg, Larry Wilmore, Al Sharpton, Jimmy Fallon, Issa Rae, Seth Meyers, Danny McBride, Walton Goggins, Terry Crews, Seth Rogen and Bill Hader.

Desus Nice and The Kid Mero also have their popular podcast, Bodega Boys.

Damn

I hope they get all the paper they deserve and have earned, but I feel like viceland was a great medium for them.

If nothing else I’m selfishly hating that they won’t be on nightly. Of course who could complain with getting more $$ to work less.

Their online and social media brand is strong so hopefully they keep rockin daily through that.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/06/inside-vice-media-shane-smith.html

tl;dr

basically says shane smith and whatshisname the director wanted to sell the thing for big money and get out, but couldn't and now the deals they made to get investments are weighing down the company and if you look around at the seams they don't really have enough money to keep everything on vice and viceland going.

not that they're going out of business now, but it ain't all good. and D&M is a hugely respected piece of what they have, so if you read that, it's not too surprising someone would pop in with a better offer.

When you were like "How is Yahoo paying for all these top-notch NBA writers and launching an original streaming platform with a revived Community when I still don't know what they actually do to make money" and then you see it was all a bluff.

Michelle Wolfe, Joel McHale, that Chelsea Handler show last year, David Letterman...clearly, Netflix wants some weekly, topical products on deck in addition to all their dump truck shows. I really do think it's surprising Netflix isn't the move considering they've started hosting a ton of Spanish language comedy specials, the one space they're really lacking in is diversity at this point. Besides Chappelle and Rock, they don't have a lot of black comedy to offer, or at least it's not surface level like that.

There isn't enough happening on a daily basis so they sometimes have to go to the bottom of the barrel in terms of clips (animals fucking). The interviews have started to be the best part of the show in my opinion.

I think moving to a weekly show could be a good move for them.

SHOWTIME® ORDERS FIRST EVER WEEKLY LATE-NIGHT TALK SHOW
STARRING DESUS AND MERO

NEW YORK – June 18, 2018 – SHOWTIME has ordered a weekly half-hour late-night series starring Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, scheduled for premiere in 2019. The first ever weekly late-night talk show on SHOWTIME will feature popular TV and podcast personalities Desus and Mero, speaking highly off the cuff and chatting with guests at the intersection of pop culture, sports, music, politics and more. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc.

“We have waited a long time to enter the talk-show space, and we were only going to do it if we felt like we had the next big thing,” Nevins said. “Desus and Mero feel like exactly that: They have knockout comedic voices, they’re brilliant interviewers and they always have a unique take on culture both high and low. They have a loyal and devoted fan base that will only multiply, and we can’t wait to see them take it to the next level on SHOWTIME.”

“We’re honored and excited to be joining the SHOWTIME family,” Desus Nice said. “The brand is stronger than ever and we look forward to continuing to make amazing authentic television that will make your wiggington explode.”

Added The Kid Mero: “I’m excited to be joining a network with such a strong foundation and track record of producing fuegooooo and to break new ground with a late-night comedy show!”

Longtime acquaintances Desus (Daniel Baker) and Mero (Joel Martinez) reconnected online in the early days of Twitter, where they unleashed their potent personalities and found themselves kindred spirits. That led to a groundbreaking podcast that the rising stars turned into the weeknight talk show Desus and Mero, developing a feverish following. Bringing a distinct voice to late night, Desus and Mero talk spontaneously about anything and everything – including the toughest topics – but laughs are first and foremost on their agenda. The comedians have also appeared in Uncommon Sense, Joking Off and Guy Code, while continuing to host the Bodega Boys podcast.

Produced by SHOWTIME in New York, the show will be executive produced by Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, and Victor Lopez.
