"man, tha Bron hate is strong."

just heard a dude at the office ask if anyone saw Lebron turn his on own ankle. basically saying that Bron was trying to injure himself cuz he's tired of carrying the team.

why is bron such a villain for so many folks? is it because he's too good? as in he's too clean. pippen/grant hill with a bigger body. no real tmz stories.

I'm a laker fan, so Kobe all day. but this shit is ridiculous.

he's too clean. doing nothing wrong.

going from team to team, eh. that doesn't take anything away from his legacy. he's ruling the league.

I can't even be mad at him going 8 times. I'm a laker and a bama fan. go until somebody plays better than you. respect due. he's not part of a dynasty or anything, although he tried that too.

if he didn't beat them, then its a knock.

speaking of conferences, it doesn't make basketball sense for him to join the lakers. he'd still have to try beating GS and now Houston.

and I don't mean that as in he is the best ever...I choose not to engage in those discussions. As someone who watched MJ from North Carolina to the Wizards...I love them both. Plus, IMO, when you start talking about the best handful of players...EVER...Bron is in that and that's good enough for me. That said, it is a little different. I don't know if I've ever seen a star receive the bizarre types of hate that Bron gets.

all i know is hes supposedly the best player ever but it seems like no one is giving it up - its always some hate

is it real hate or is it sports fans acting like children?

btw, something I wonder about - is the bron really the best ever or is it said because hes the best right now? I think of Kobe and how in his prime every one would say he was the best and now it seems like he might as well been a bum.

he's not on my team, so I don't like him. so yeah, acting like children. but its also cuz he's just so good that the greatest ever talk has to happen. there's no right answer to best ever, but there are a lot of wrong ones. he's not one of the wrong ones.

there's definitely prisoner of the moment thing that's happening with him. however, he's been producing at elite NBA level for a while now. we have enough material on him to have real debates.

as a Kobe fan, he's passed my boy. Kobe's an all-timer too, but he fell off with the injuries. they approach the game differently also. Bean will get you 40 and play some d. Bron will get you 40 with 10 assists, 12 boards and 2 chase down blocks. both great. bron does more stuff.

most agree that he's a pretty quality individual. The sports shit is factions...you got:

MJ disciples that bristle at the mere thought that Bron could be better...so the rings argument starts

Kobe disciples that don't hear their guy get mentioned in the Top 3 discussion. I am a huge Kobe fan, but let's be honest...you don't go into a barber shop and hear "is Kobe better than Jordan?". He's simply not thought about in that way and that bothers (some of) them.

Fans of teams that Bron has beat down/ruined through the years...

i appreciate the kind of person he is, and what he chooses to express via the platform he earned for himself.

i even think he's hilarious. he was cracking me up in that stupidly funny Amy Schumer movie, and i would actually buy a theatre ticket for something else with him in it.

and not everyone seems to understand this, but the hate is boring when the target is weak. if he wasnt the best player in the league for a considerable time, while giving us real life heel-face turns (just part of how NBA mirrors wrestling now btw), i dunno how much i would care.

and and, its satisfying and compelling storytelling even when the teams/players i "hate" win. that has to be said.

but fuck Bron

so it becomes "well he's not the GOAT because..."

And I used to be a LeBron hater. I don't even know why. But I've come around and have grown to respect and admire the dude, even root for him. I think most of my hate was rooted in the Bron vs Jordan debate. But really, it's ok that they're both great. I'll still always have Jordan on top, but Bron is a fair argument.

He's a hell of a player, and seems to be a good dude. At this point I don't get the vitriol, but fans gonna fan I suppose.

he proved that with 25 points in the 4th against detroit years ago.

folks will talk about taking that last shot, which I kinda get. but he makes the right play most times and many times that calls for him to pass. the rest is really ego. not like he shrinks in the spotlight.

he's failed in the spotlight too, but who hasn't?

so it looks bad for someone who wants to see that

but its definitely not about clutch. clutch is way bigger than situations like that, and lebron has amped up his defense enough in huge games to be considered clutch w/o even considering offense

There are cats in the league that I just can't stand. I root against them, I boo them and I want them to lose. But I'd be an idiot not to respect their talent and game. I never root for a cat to get injured, no matter how much I dislike them. I wouldn't be at a game and say foul things about his family or his mother or sister or wife or anything like that. I call this hate "within the game."

When you start slandering an athlete's name, or saying wild thing about their family or wishing injury or bad things to happen to them in their personal life all because you don't like the player or his team, you've gone way off the rails.

If folks root against Lebron, that's fine. That's sports. But some of the crazy stuff they say about him is way beyond being a sports fan. Folks don't know where to draw the line anymore.

... that shouldn't even bother them

I was watching the game w/ someone who hates him and cited the Decision as one of the reasons why. The Decision was EIGHT YEARS AGO first of all. Sure it wasn't the best way to go about it but even HE admitted that. But people have made way worst decisions at age 25

The rest of the (irrational) hate has to do with him not fitting to other people's box of what a "winner"/GOAT should look and operate like

It's fascinating, really. But also quite sad.

I can't watch more than 2 minutes of a Bron interview without cringing hard. The dude just says the most obnoxious shit. It's like he still wants to be the aw shucks humble likable good guy while still making abundantly clear just how superior he knows he is, and it comes off super clumsy. Kobe used to try to do this early in his career. I started to respect Kobe more when he finally decided to embrace being the villain. LeBron would be better served just doing that, it would come off more naturally. He doesn't have to be an asshole about it but people are gonna hate him either way, the hate's never gonna dissipate after The Decision. May as well revel in it.

All that said, watching this dude play the game is Basketball Porn. We're all fortunate to be able to witness him mastering his craft 100x a year. His durability is remarkable too; the minutes he plays, the beatings he puts his body through ... and he's never suffered a major injury or missed any significant time from the court. Also - he's been in the spotlight since he was what, 14 ? and has never had a major scandal, not a single one. That's incredible and, in addition to the community and charity work he does, speaks to his character.

All that stuff makes me *want* to like him so bad. But then he speaks and I'm like - ughhhhh. STFU. Haha.

The only things I can glean an opinion about him on are his on-the-court skills and his interviews / public persona.

while in Miami. you could see that didn't fit him well. it was more of a burden than anything and actually gave folks more room to hate. Kobe is much better at being the bad guy since he wears his arrogance like a superhero outfit.

I'm ok with him wanting to be one of the guys and also realizing that he's not. it does come off in his interviews, but no issues for me on that.

... shitty decision-making. Pun intended. I think he honestly believed that he was so likable that he could do something like The Decision and go play with his boys in Miami and lose no goodwill with the general public. Obviously he was wrong, and people crushed him for it. But I think he spent much of his time trying to play that down and get back in folks' good graces ... IMO he never really embraced being hated.

He spends more time blaming his teammates, coaches, etc. He "takes responsibility" like your example above "oh it's on me ... HOWEVAH" It's so transparent.

All he has to do is say the following:

Thank you city of Cleveland for all the memories. I will be back but right now I need to go somewhere that gives me a chance to earn more rings before i retire.

Bron needs a minimum of two rings before he retires as that is how long he has left as far as maximum prime performance.

shit, the only reason i liked kobe so much is bc he was on my team

he was an asshole, volume shooting, bitch but the way he was on the court resonated with me

I didn't like Jordan and less of him resonated with me and he played for the bulls so i think i literally only rooted for him once against the Jazz one finals but the Byron Russell push-off brought me back to the hate lol

i would probably be a huge lebron fan if not for the way he acts on the court...he's an absolute physical specimen and he still wants every single call whether he initiates contact or not...that's literally the opposite of me...that's the whiny big guy to me and i can't stand that...he also has this way of seeming authentically inauthentic

dude is a complete and utter beast though and i'd put him in top 3-5 easy. I think he's even in consideration for top 2. I have regular basketball issues with him too...the same ones i have with John Wall. It's like they are so determined on shouldering the load that they cause awful game flow despite lots of assists but it basically asks your teammates to be catch and shoot robots the 2 out of 10 times they stop him from driving and that shit is wack basketball to me. he's so dominant that it's winning basketball but i don't think his team ever gets the credit they deserve bc he's too ball dominant and basically playing coach, pg, floor general

it's nothing even personal...bc i don't mind selfish players...but i'd probably only root for him if he was on my team and i'd likely ignore or downplay the shit that irks me about him

Let me sport my Air Hyperbole 2010s in peace. (c) ansomble

The constant bitching at the refs is a HUGE turnoff. So I guess I should add that to my critiques above. He's a product of this generation where every player does that but it comes off worse coming from him because of what you said about how he is so much bigger and dominating, and generally initiates the contact himself.

it wasn't that big of a deal. I think the thing that turned into a fan was all the white folks hate for him.

I am also always an underdog fan. It's why I hated Jordan and my favorite team is the 90s Knicks. It's why I can never like Goldden State.

By the time Lebron got back to Cleveland he felt like an underdog for the first time in his career and I got get fully behind him.

This year's run alone consisted of some shit I'm not sure we'll ever see again out of one player.

I hate to even mention his name here (I don't like the MJ vs Bron debates) but Jordan was a dream killer. There were so many all-time greats that could never make it past him, Bron not so much.

It's fun seeing his game evolving as he's getting older though.

he didn't win until Pippen got there. not saying you're wrong, Jordan was definitely a dream killer, but wouldn't have won any of the titles without the rest of those rosters, or at least some of that support. Bron single-handedly killed the entire Eastern Conference dreams. by himself, no help.

i still have Jordan as the undisputed GOAT, don't get me wrong, but Bron pretty much kills as many dreams as he can by himself.

*edit*
my bad, i completely overlooked this line: "This year's run alone consisted of some shit I'm not sure we'll ever see again out of one player." so we're pretty much in agreement.

I was indifferent initially..then I hated him cause it seemed like everbody and they mama was on his dick. But he has proven himself and as far as his persona, it reminds me of the old school sportsmen I grew up watching.

he HAS to talk. That's what the media wants. Where some see ego, I see him just tryna fill the interview with some words words words so they'll let him go. It's just part of the machine.

He's a dope dude.
