I saw what "church membership" did to my family growing up and I don't want any part of that. You're automatically associated with the bs that can go on at a church, and I don't want that*
It might sound selfish, but I go to church for ME, as, I feel, most people should.
Again, I'm basing my feelings on what went on at Chapel Hill Baptist Church between the years of 1982-1989, so I shouldn't lump all churches in that bucket. The church we attend now is a complete 180 from my childhood church (that my moms still attends, so I see the BS still goes on...smh). Maybe I'll get over it and become a people greeter or an usher one day, lol. BUt for now, I'm good with being Mr. Invisible

But I tithe at the church my mom is a member of. And the Pastor is going to tutor my older son this summer. She has a degree for children with special needs so I think that’s pretty fly that she volunteered to do that for us. ... i think i'd do more if i wasn't single. i don't ever plan on leaving, but i've considered regularly visiting other congregations or denominations where i could engage with people like me more frequently.
(i'm catholic and i don't agree with much of the dogma and the hierarchy...but i'd rather be a part of changing it than give up on it, especially when there's such a diversity of catholic communities out there.)
Other than the few years i was away in the military, its been the only one ive attended consistently. So ive always felt like a member even though i never joined. Now that im older, i dont feel the need to officially indoctrinate into the church.

Except for Assumption, because that's in August and between being in schools or working in schools for so long I'm apparently not capable of remembering a holy day when classes aren't in session.
