Back again for the first time.

I'm not gonna lie. The first thing I've checked *every single morning* since November 2016 is Trump's Twitter feed. Watching him live-tweet Fox News every morning and shaping the day's narrative has been surreal.

In an attempt to understand his voter base, I decided to check in on a thriving political thread on the GD forum for Kentucky basketball fans (some of my own are despicable people). 98% Trump voters. Some of the shit I've seen on there blows my mind. Far-right, libertarian views on Islam, immigrants, guns, teachers, poor people...

But the most striking thing is their opinion that every "liberal" is 100% batshit crazy. They think everything "liberals" do is an attempt to "destroy American values." Here's a sip of the juice:

All teachers are liberal and force kids to vote Democrat. Teachers should have guns. Lefty cucks should move to places like London since they hate America so much, then get raped by Muslims. Black people need to quit taking handouts and finally start working. Let's get our guns, organize a militia, and meet this "caravan" of Central Americans at our southern border. Michelle Obama has a penis. We have a bunch of people in this country who don't respect how our nation was built. Of course we all knew that Trump was a slimebag, but we voted for him because he actually cares about AMERICA!

Sorry to vent, but I'll admit that Trump (and his supporters) have occupied WAY too much of my brain space recently. I loved Obama to death but I wasn't following his every step like I do with Trump. The ominous vibe of his presidency - from the first day until the last - is something I haven't experienced before.

Obama deserves so much better than this. He was far from perfect to be sure, but he also faced more incredible odds than most Presidents before him. Yet in spite of that resistance to his very presence he was poised, classy as fucking humanly possible, and did some great things that he deserved to watch mature and grow in his post-presidency years. The healthcare bill, the Iran deal, the Climate agreement, all the strides he oversaw for the gay community, etc. etc. etc.

It's just so fucking sad and typical that the first black president has to endure watching the worst possible successor imaginable do literally everything he possibly can to undo all the good things he did.

To answer the OP no it doesn't feel like reality and yes I feel more crazy, more hopeless, more often, witnessing all of this than I think I've really ever felt.

we are still 6 cotdamn months away from the midterms, which the Republicans are already presenting to their voters as a defense of Trump against the deep state or whatever. Not even trying to run on their tax cuts or "signature" achievements (and Trump himself spends half his rallies yelling about Hilary and his EC win). That's 24 weeks, which is a long long time with the corruption and scandals revealed on the daily.

The only coping thing I've found lately is reading more about world news, and limiting my US news intake somewhat (esp lame-ass NPR). I still find it strange how many people I know socially who never mention any of it, not even as a joke, and act extremely awkwardly whenever 45 gets mentioned. They seem to still be in the post-election phase of wishing it would just go away, not looking too closely while him and his cohort of ghouls snap away at the moral fabric. Can't get too angry at them deciding to deal with things that way, but it just makes me think Trump's wannabe-autocrat tactics of muddying everything down to his level are having a real impact and do not make me hopeful at all.

But it's a lot of footage of mothers and children starving in Yemen, people fighting in Syria, Rohingya refugees camps, etc. I can only watch it for so long though.

It's really an off and on thing. Shit will def drive you crazy if you let it. Especially with people living in separate realities

"Release the OIG report" apparently refers to the US Justice Department's internal watchdog report on the department's handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe. The 568-page report was released this week, leaving Wright's message unclear.

Police said Wright had a rifle and handgun when he was taken into custody following a pursuit.
Authorities were called to the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge over the Colorado River just after noon on Friday when Wright allegedly parked across the southbound lanes. Both sides of US 93 were shut down for about 90 minutes.
At about 1 p.m. PT, Wright slowly drove into Arizona, running over spike strips about 5 miles in. Less than 4 miles later he turned down a dirt road and eventually stopped. The pursuit last about 35 minutes, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
According to online jail records, Wright is being held without bail in the Mohave County Jail. It is unclear whether he has an attorney. Online records do not list one.
The Hoover Dam and the bridge are on the border between Arizona and Nevada.
