is that she thinks she is too cool to show up to sound check. Half of those gestures are for the sound guy to turn something up in her mix. But I kinda get it if you are doing a different version of your songs every show.

especially after all the production credit drama with Miseducation...so in her mind, if she looks like she is the music director AND the singer, no one can dispute her musicianship. ****FACEPALM****
And I am an absolute STAN for her unplugged album.
I'm waiting for a video to surface of her guitarist quitting in the middle of a set...handing her the ax and saying, 'knock yourself out, Quincy.'

so stressful, manic and uptight. Lauryn needs to chill the fuck out and get into her songs more, not worrying about every fucking note her band are playing. Nah, I'm happy listening at home.

in Minneapolis after Prince died and I can't even watch the video while she performs it. She desperately wants the sound guy to turn up the keys and the background singers look like so stiff and petrified, like she is pointing a gun to their heads in case they fuck up.

fact that she KNOWS she isn't the Lauryn of the past but has to get out to to grind and make paper.
Wish someone could be real with her and get her to get better at live performing again...
Her Austin City Limits was actually like old Lauryn for Doo Wop and Ready now that I think of it...we need more that less every other recent performance...
Mosley btw plays with Kamasi Washington and a lot of the jazz musicians coming out of LA. I used to listen to this live version of Rhythm Changes like every morning:

I'm obviously a Ms. Hill stan. I'm also a musician and appreciate what she and her band are doing just on a technical/musical level. I hope nothing I wrote comes off as dismissive to her as an artist, who has a right to perform and create on her own terms. I just found it fascinating how she is able to perform her vocals so perfectly, while simultaneously communicating in this whole other language to the musicians and sound techs around her. But yeah, she's an enigmatic person and people are going to talk. How many Black women geniuses do people get to see on such a mainstream level? Being misunderstood and dismissed, unfortunately, comes with the territory.

Our upbringing trying to call them remixes cause you are in your nostalgic feelings. When the music being made from our gen was doing the same thing and we had to explain to older folks no it's a sample not a remix it's a diff song. Smh

which sampled Glady's The Way We Were. But I guess it really depends on the degree to which you flip the sample. The lazier the sample the more it approaches remix territory.
