"old heads that appeal to the millenials (DJ Khaled, 2 Chainz, Fat Joe, e..."

They've been able to reinvent themselves without coming off to the kids as "washed" "old" "dusty" etc

Khaled did it with Snapchat. He mastered that shit.
Tity Boi changed his name and became a catchphrase.
Joey Crack somehow manages to catch lightning in a bottle every 5-6 years and puts out that ONE banger that everyone loves.

These dudes are 40+ but manage to stay "relevant" and off the old head circuit

It's like Madonna, the queen of reinvention. Not too many successful examples in hip hop though.

Ye is kinda borderline, he's a generational bridge
a kid born in 94 could say he grew up with Ye
just like we say we grew up with ATCQ

Joe should be on the old head revival tours but he can still crank out a club hit

not totally disagreeing with Joe's current relevance but he's kinda like Busta to me in that regard...

He occasionally has a banger. But it's not like his whole style and steez appeals to young people. I remember thinking he was "washed" (or whatever we called it back then) when Lean Back came out, despite that song being a banger.

A 50 year old was a teenager/young adult in the 80s, when you were still very much a child.

A 50 year old was in their mid-30s (!) when social media hit. MAny of them had their own teenaged kids by that point.

Etc.

Generationally speaking??

my parents, I thought, according to literally every definition are both boomers born in the late 50s...

So are the folks only born in the 40s and early 50s boomers? lol
One set grew up in Happy Days Diners while the other was partying in Disco's soooooooo

i personally, can remember back to 81-82 forward...Vividly
70's obviously no...
but again...culturally...they ain't grow up on NOTHING that i didn't...they just got in the club before i did

I'm at the tail end of Gen X...Someone born a yr later i would still consider in X...I'm not a Millenial or whatever the hella xennial is lol

I feel like we're in the Post hip hop period of rap, where a lot of these dudes are TECHNICALLY rapping at the most basic of levels but aren't really spitting.

They should probably come up with a new term instead of "Rapper" so they aren't getting compared to the Rakim's,Jay-Zs and Eminem-s of the world
