"Thank you NYC, birthplace of hip hop, for Tekashi 69"

I thought Papoose was the height of the art form until this creation. You all should be proud of yourselves.

the face tattoos are Lil Wayne's influence

the multi-colored hair is a product of oneupmanship, he has to look crazier than the last big rapper who looked crazy because that brand of internet hip-hop is based on attention, not music

him being from New York is an utter non-factor in his popularity

2018 Hip-Hop is the Wild West, anyone can get a look if they make enough kids gravitate to them

where he's from has nothing to do with his look or why he's generated attention

It absolutely matters that "Mero" & "Cardi B" are from the Bronx. They don't exist anywhere else on the planet.

An act like Tekashi would have to come from NYC, it doesn't make any sense anywhere else.

French Montana has to be from NYC, people like him don't exist anywhere else.

Mexicans don't have hip hop cred in NY either. They mostly have hip hop cred in California if anything.

As far as Puerto Rican hip hop cred, you think of Tekashi is riding on Crazy Legs' or Big Pun's or Tony Touch's coattails?

This is not about hip hop credentials, this is about being the next Stitches.

It's very clear what separates them, and it doesn't have much to do with how the music sounds.

He's way bigger than Stitches ever was, and where he's from is a big reason why. The idea that Tekashi has some semblance of street cred makes his character a lot more fascinating.

earlier you said there is nobody like French Montana outside of NY. Look at DJ Khaled lol

>It's very clear what separates them, and it doesn't have much
>to do with how the music sounds.

Right, it's not the music. Both were the lightest dudes in their videos. Both have face tats. Both screamed loud on trap beats and wave guns. One is Mexican & Puerto Rican from Brooklyn, the other is Cuban and Greek from Florida. Both raised a ton of internet buzz through outlandish youtube videos.

>He's way bigger than Stitches ever was, and where he's from is
>a big reason why. The idea that Tekashi has some semblance of
>street cred makes his character a lot more fascinating.

One is more successful than the other because of proximity to New York industry and being younger and more instagram-friendly, most likely.

Where else can a Moroccan dude could gain all those connections in the hip-hop world. His credibility comes from NYC. His story is pretty unique to NYC.

Did you grow up here? Are you Black? If not, then why do you feel comfortable speaking about what NYC hip-hop is, or isn't?

Probably the same reason why French & Tekashi feel like THEY can speak on it. You have spent enough time here to feel connected to NYC urban culture.

Cholos vs tekashi beef cause of the Mexican and gang thing (he is from southeast SD so was around a lot of bloods growing up, and out here he is / was cool with bloods uptown). We been shooting messages back and forth for months about this kid.

I was born in NYC and lived from 8 to 18 in LA so I am familiar with LA gang culture and been back in NY since 99. I listened to a lot of east coast rap while in LA too. The full story is not only an NYC story.

If he was from Chicago or LA, nobody would be trying to hear any of that shit. The Black community wouldn't accept him, and I don't think the Chicano & Latino communities there would respect him either.

Tekashi could die behind aligning himself with a Black gang in Chicago or LA. This is the only place where he could pull off this act, but still have the "But wait, this guy might really be crazy" effect. If you see Tekashi hopping around on the 2 train, you'll just assume he's some bugged out homeless dude. Homeless people have a lot of personality in NYC. lol you can let me know if I'm being NYC centric on that one, but I think NYC has the most bugged out homeless people. They are way too active.

^ ^ ^ReaLest shit you eva wrote. I'm a Cali ninja, and I been tryna tell ninjaz...Tekashi would've NEVER happened out here. Dude woulda been inna box 6feet deep out here pullin that dumb shit.

And don't get it twisted, you may see a Mexicano in a Africano gang out here and vice-versa(tho its some rare shit depending on whether you from SoCal or NorCal: Cali facts, Surenos AKA SoCal Mexicanos tend to NOT fuck wit Africanos too tough even tho they indulge in our culture(c)HipHop but Nortenos AKA NorCal Mexicanos are a lot less hostile towards Africanos and you might could see a couple Mexicanos sprinkled in a Africano gang there.)

But even considering those ethnic politics, thas not what woulda put'eem inna casket: All dat "test my gangsta" shit is what woulda had'eem laced. You can't pull dat shit in Cali, Ninjaz WILL. COME. SEE. YOU. over dat!

Its not a game out here.

he were from anywhere else. Stop focusing on his look, his story is an NYC story.

Mero's story is an NYC story. Cardi's story is a NYC story.

Same thing with guys like Bobby Shmurda & Casanova. It doesn't matter if their music or look was influenced by people outside of NYC. Why are these guys talking about shooting everything, then doing a dance immediately afterwards. Ohhh, they're of Caribbean descent... remember when there were people alleging that Bobby was gay? If you grew up in NYC around Caribbean people, you knew how silly that idea was.

Cardi B sounds and acts like a New Yorker, but she's where she is because she was funny and charismatic enough to go viral and get on Love & Hip Hop

Tekashi is succeeding where Young MA and 2 Milly didnt because of gang related controversy (attention in an attention based era), a wild look (attention in an attention based era), and tapping into whatever energy the kids are into (attention in an attention based era) none of that is exclusive to Brooklyn

So this is what the emergence of gangs in NYC lead to.

Just shouting on a record, saying the n word, using wrestling moves on women, is enough to get fame. NYC crowned this guy as king. THIS is the guy repping you and the world has to respect it. He's the pinnacle of lyrical proficiency in NYC and demands respect

Club true/accurate? His version basically was he was 18, she was like 14, he didn't know, the prosecutor told him to plead out or he'd have to (do alot of time) EDITED TO REVISE: it would cost alot for him to fight it, which he accepted because he was broke. That's not the same thing as some sort of Sandusky situation.

But that came from him. I'm far too removed from any of this to have the real scoop.

he plead guilty because it was recorded and uploaded lol. kinda hard to deny when the prosecutor has the smoking gun.

this is all public record.

if you wanna believe a breakfast club interview...where he intentionally misquotes her age as 14 (like that makes it better)...and he also misquoted her age in an akademiks interview *months ago* and was promptly reminded that she was officially 13 (so he obviously is just playing dumb now)...then thats on you lol.

niggas really in here riding for this weirdo lol.

when i was 18 if you messed with a 13 yr old you were called a chester. chester = ch(ild)(mol)ester.

in the age of facebook, ig, and twitter...theres no excuse to not know what age range, school, social circle etc a chick in your neighborhood is around with some basic browsing.

another defendant in the case...i think the dude who was filmed getting head from her...admitted to knowing her before that specific incident.

if anyone chooses to believe that he didnt know her age then thats up to them.

This is making money off young people clicking on your website

This is taking a sprinkle of this shit, a sprinkle of that shit, and selling it back to you

Why we are acting like this is not a farce but 'a disappointment and a stain on the birthplace of hip-hop' etc. etc. is beyond me

This is the age we are in

We got fed Despacito at the Grammys for the simple fact it had 3.2 billion views on fuckin youtube fam!

That was what gave it cultural weight

That's why I laughed when some hacker deleted the video off youtube and rolled back the view-count.

At least most of it. Seems like the quest to be a national star like Biggie or Jay has been the main motivation for a lot of rappers out of NYC (and the rest of the country to be fair), since Big changed the game.

Takeisha is just part of the natural progression of this race to the bottom. There will be someone even more absurd soon enough.

especially when comparing them to Cube and Pac.

Both those dudes didn't start out gangsta either.

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

The studio gangsta thing seemed to put a hard cap on his level of success.

Cube was moving around with different crews, he had to make sure he could move around without being food.

We saw what Tupac was doing, he probably could charm his way into damn near any group of people on the planet.

Spice 1 is from the Bay, and damn near everyone from the Bay's "gangster" got tested at some point. He couldn't get away with that out there.

and 69 is rumored to be walking Jessie Vargas (Broner's opponent) out on Saturday.

Many suspect that this is fake in order to further bring more attention to the fight, but it's kinda smart marketing on both their parts especially if Broner wins. If he loses, well it was smart on 69's part.

That whole fight card will be lit tho regardless.
